Bump for an update. Over the last couple months I've been poking away at this. As of yesterday I have the engine about 80% assembled. The only thing left as far as assembly is to shim the valves, install the rest of the cam timing stuff (the only thing installed so far is the chains and lower guides. Still have the upper guides, gears, tensioners and cams), and put the valve covers on. Then after that it's just putting it in the bike and firing it up. Hopefully it will be a couple more garage sessions before it's back together.

I'm not sure it is any easier. Two separate cylinders with gaskets on both ends, two heads, two cam chains, 4 cams to shim and make sure they're aligned properly. It may not look like a lot, but when you get into it there's a lot of shit in there... haha

Update: It runs! But it's not road worthy yet... I got it back together, took it out for a spin and put about 5 miles on it. Came to a stop and smoke was rolling up from underneath, oil was leaking down onto the exhaust and getting onto the rear wheel a little bit. Got it back to the garage and traced it to either the clutch shaft seal, or the driveshaft seal. I ordered both of them and should have them either tomorrow or Monday.

I also need to re-shim the valves. I left one a little too loose and it clacks pretty good. Luckily this can be done in the bike, I just need to figure out which one is loose. Other than that, it runs out great!

Also, I got some new rear turn signals and went back to the stock tail light since a few of the LEDs in the aftermarket light I had were burned out.

Today I got the clutch slave bled, a pretty good size air bubble came out and the clutch lever felt immediately better. Re-wired the front turn signals, topped off coolant and took it out. Test ride number two went much better than the first! I put about 25 miles on it and everything went perfect. No leaks, drips, smoke or weird noises! I would have gone farther, but I still don't want to venture too far from home yet. Hopefully the weather will be nice tomorrow so I can put some miles on it!
