Re: Turning my quest into a dsm.
Well, it leaks, and in this really cold weather it won't even start, though I didn't change anything since when it started before.
Once I get something to drain the coolant just a little to fix the leak, I can let it get warmed up and set the timing so it's right on.
Cleaned up the interior a bit, and I soldered the knock sensor wires to a new plug so that is done. I need to get a DSM O2 sensor, get a hacksaw to cut the bumper mounts cause the warehouse I'm in won't let me throw sparks all over.
once the bumper mounts (frame rails) are cut then I can figure out how to mount the intercooler, it should slide in, but it will probably have problems. At least its good for like 1000 hp or whatever.
Then I get to connect my tach, make boost tubes and finish cleaning it up and tidying things up. It should be ready to get tuned by spring. Pretty exciting.
Anyone know where to get that shiny heat resistant wrap?

Re: Turning my quest into a dsm.
Use a sawzall if they won't let you use a cut off wheel.
The shiny stuff can be bought from Summit or Jegs. I am not sure if anyone local has it, maybe TNT or MAS.

Re: Turning my quest into a dsm.
More progress today. I am really happy to be at this point, it was the biggest step other than tuning and boost tubes. All the other stuff is nitpicky and small.
Here is my solution for the difficult mounting position:
I think it looks great, but just to fill that opening, you need to cut a lot of metal. I think I'll get 'er reinforced later.
Next up: fixing the couple coolant leaks, save up for exhaust manifold while cleaning up wiring, refitting the interior, reattatching exterior parts like the airdam, etc., etc. It goes on and on. Cant wait to be done!

Re: Turning my quest into a dsm.
Awesome man. I'm guessing no, but did you jump in on that group buy for the SS MKI manifold? I remember the wastegate placement was stupid but unsure if he ever changed the design. Good price for a dec manifold though.
Good thing I don't have a quest anymore. Seeing all this makes me want to go MPI - but that ain't a problem when you don't even have the car!
Good luck with the finishing touches.

Re: Turning my quest into a dsm.
Thanks!
If anything, I would like to buy his new coilovers. That manifold is stupid, I can get a short ram-style for 550 bucks from chuck at boost factory, and the old turbonetics cast log is a good option also, but those might be sold out for good.
Don't worry about building yourself an mpi quest. I think it's mostly not worth it in terms of money vs. performance. As for the satisfaction of doing something most people don't do, and for me specifically - in a way that no one else has ever done it, I find it to be completely satisfying and worth every mis-spent dollar.
This will forever be my project car (unless I sell it someday). It will be drivable after this session, but I will continue to add little bits here and there over the life of the car. It's pretty fun.
I can't wait to buy a daily driver fuel miser.

Re: Turning my quest into a dsm.
Well, since I posted last, a lot has happened, I got my big turbo on, all leaks are fixed, I need a return oil line for the turbo, but need to tap/weld a bung on to the pan for that. So I have to wait a while, but at least I got the feed line worked out, much easier than I though it would be. Thanks mitsu for using pipe threads in all the right places!
Here it was a couple weeks ago:
Here's the stock guy with the 61.
And with the new turbo, manifold and tial 38 mounted. I have to get a new downpipe made up, but that will get done at the same time as the I/C pipes.

Re: Turning my quest into a dsm.
And a couple more:
Cleaned up the area here, removed the charcoal canister, remounted the PS reservoir, figured out some wires etc.
And this is good for me: finally got all sensors and wires for them lined up and mostly ready. I will be redoing all injector clips and wires in a while. I'll shorten up the excess and wrap it all in loom tubing.

Glad to see this come together. And when you blow the 2.6, you can swap in a 4g easy.

Yeah, that's the upside!
I'd like to keep the g54b as long as possible though.

Re: Turning my quest into a dsm.
It's fairly close. I am going to tidy up the wiring inside. I have to find the stock tach wire and connect the dsm wire to that. then one more on the inside, then I can mount the ecu and get the interior all cleaned up. That will be nice. That aem is huge compared to the stock ecu, so it's going to be hard to do it right.
Lets see, then it's I/C pipes, downpipe, and the oil drain tube for the turbo. For that I have to mod the oilpan, which is hard to do when it's in storage, so I'll have to get that done by the same guy doing my piping.
I am getting more than I expected for student loans this summer, so I will be using some of my "reserves" for the car, don't tell anyone though. I really want to be done by the cookout so I can get at least best conquest.

Re: Turning my quest into a dsm.
Thanks, btw, I'm actually not getting that extra student loan stuff I told you guys about. something about being in college for more than 4 years. Oh well, I'll get a job or something.
