Now I have 2 issues dude. For the last couple years, I have NOT been pushing coolant, just running hot, and I'm pretty sure it was a lack of airflow to the radiator.

Now this year, I think I have an issue with the new head I put on, because I am ALSO pushing coolant. I've never had that issue until this year. Don't get the two issues confused.

So this is to help issue #1. Issue #2 is why I have the L19's, and will attempt to take car of that issue next time I have a free weekend, and it's a rainy boring weekend.

Thanks for the tips. But if you search for my thread on here called Drilling Thermostat, you'll see I've been battling this for a couple years now, and the MANY things I've tried. I'm currently on a 160* thermostat, with 2 holes drilled in it. If you've seen my car, you'll notice I have a hood vent. I went to the extreme of cutting a deng hole in my hood because I started running out of ideas.

Quick run down of things I've tried
- a million different mixtures of coolant, water, dish soap, water wetter.
- 160 thermostat, drilled
- higher pressure rad cap
- burping system a million times.
- air scoop under the car
- aluminum radiator
- fans always on
- hood vent
- ceramic coating manifold and turbine housing
- heat wrapping manifold and turbine housing
- pressure tested the cooling system 2 times to verify no leaks
- researched and bought the best design water pump

Well considering I still have my A/C condensor, and I've started to realise that I started having these issues as soon as I got that VPE FMIC, I have good reason to believe it is simply blocking too much air for me since I still have a AV condensor. So this is just one more thing I'm trying in my never ending quest to fix this issue. And I think this will fix it.

Also, I have the ETS FMIC mounted and everything back together.! But ghetto style had to use a bunch of zip ties because they place their mounting ears in a spot that isn't too friendly if you have the pop-ups, and still have AC. I'm going to see what they recommend. If I get no where with them, I'll have to just come up with something on my own.

I just recognized the puddle, because my car is pushing now.

Re: My Winter Upgrades

You're still having overheating issues? I didn't think there were issues on the cruise. I thought it was because the fans were on in reverse.

Re: My Winter Upgrades

The car ran fine on the cruise. But it was also what like 55 out or something? And I had my heater on. If I had my heater off, the car would have started to get a bit hotter for sure.

The real problem comes on those days it's 85 - 90 out. Nothing like driving home in that weather, with the heater on blast. Those days are the reason I left my A/C in the car, but I can't even use it because the car will overheat.

And I did find one of my fans had the fins on backwards. That seemed to help slightly, but still didn't fix the issue completely in the end.

Re: My Winter Upgrades

Kind of a silly question but are sure the sensor isn't bad or something telling you it's hotter than it really is? Or have you tested that? Seems funny that it would run hot like that, even with an FMIC, if you have 2 fans it should be fine. Something just doesn't seem right.

Fuck just switch to straight meth, problem solved.

Re: My Winter Upgrades

I never tried new sensors. My reasoning behind that was this...

The sensor for the GAUGE is seperate from the sensor that sends the temp to the ECU correct? Well I not only notice the temp is high in DSMLink, but also the gauge reads higher then I'm used to seeing. So I had a hard time believing 2 sensors are both bad, and both reading slightly high.

Anyhow, I drove around quite a bit today with the new FMIC. I haven't been logging, just watching the gauge, and it's already running noticably cooler. Hell tonight, the gauge was barely over that first tick mark marking the normal range! Much much cooler then before. I'm very happy about that!!!

Stupid turbulators blocking air flow to the radiator. To bad you do not have an AIT sensor at the TB to see if there is a difference in air temps for the different intercoolers.

Re: My Winter Upgrades

I do wish I did have a way to monitor it, oh well. From what I'm hearing though, even though ETS cores have a less dense external fin pack, their cores still perform real well.

Re: My Winter Upgrades

Got the mounting situation taken care of. But FYI, anyone with pop-ups, and A/C, this won't just mount up right out of the box with where they located their mounting ears. I just took a piece of angle aluminum and bolted it the full length of the ears, then mounted it closer to the hood latch. Worked out perfect.

Also, another big thanks to Momin at Elite. He put the final touch on the exhaust he built me, by adding a nice little tip to it. It sticks out past the bumper just a smidge, which is exactly what I asked for, so I don't have to worry about soot on the rear bumper anymore

Changed the oil today and put a few miles on her. I think I'm ready for RF tomorrow

Re: My Winter Upgrades

Well, today things took a funny turn. Drove it to MAP's bbq, everything was good. Later at night got to Brownman's house to do some quick pulls to make sure the car is still at where I want it to be, and right before we were gunna head out, we noticed a funny sound. Sounded like it was coming from the cam gear cover.

Here's what we found.

Drove her home nice and easy, and a couple hours later had it all buttoned up. The timing belt itself needs to be changed, which will happen in a couple weeks when I redo the headgasket, and put the L19's in. But for now, T-Belt should still last a good while as is.

So needless to say, we never got to do any pulls, so that'll be something to do on the way to the track

Close call though, man am I glad we found that tonight, and not in Wisconsin.

And big thanks to Brownman for sticking around and helping me get this resolved!!
