Re: Project Lex
Feels like i still have a long ways to go. Hopefully can get the new clutch disc in this weekend. Once that is done, I'll feel a lot closer.

Re: Project Lex
You've got to have some gasket material floating around, just cut yourself a gasket for the drain flange and be done with it.

Re: Project Lex
Couldn't get a thing done because the entire garage floor was covered in condensation because of the insane humidity today, ack!!
So instead, I hopped on Egay and bought a 92+ 4Runner Distributor Cap. They are slightly slimmer which will help the turbo inlet clear because it's a tight squeeze.

Re: Project Lex
So far no other plans other than a new set of plugs. In the future, I will have to look into something, and I'm unsure which route I will go at this point.
Anyhow more updates. Got the oil pan installed. Went to put the Felpro gasket on and it's the complete wrong shape. Come to find out there's a couple different oil pan designs, and of course the gasket was for the other one. Somabitch. The gasket did come with 4 bottles of RTV however, so I just "Tpunx'd that shit" and hopefully that will suffice. We shall see...
Once I was done with that, like Spazzy mentioned I just grabbed some gasket material I had laying around and made a gasket for the oil drain flange. Gave it a coat of copper spray for good measure. So that should be done.
Installed the oil feed fitting into the turbo. I used a little bit of liquid pipe thread sealer.
Decided to try and tackle the tranny. First I had to remove the rest of the exhaust. Once I got that off, I removed the driveshaft.
Then started at the Tranny. I got all the motor to tranny bolts off. Slave Cylinder off, Starter off. Took 2 of the 4 tranny mount bolts off. Took the reverse light plug off. And that's where it sits.
What's left is I need to find the speedometer cable and remove it. Then I have to figure out how to unhook the damn shifter in the car. I took the 4 bolts off that hold it to the tunnel. Looking online people say the shifter should just lift off? Mine doesn't budge. Dumb little thing I'm sure, just gotta figure it out. Then just remove those last two bolts on the tranny mount and she should be on the floor. Aaron hit me up tomorrow I need to borrow that tranny jack if at all possible.
In comparison to a DSM tranny, so far it seems about the same. Probably just because I've done a DSM one so many times, and it's my first time doing this.
Also pics of the sweet turbo blanket

Re: Project Lex
Also I was planning on making my own exhaust. But I feel like I'm on a time crunch now and need to get this sucker done. So figured I'd search for a cheap catback to run for now, and can worry about modifying it in the future to quiet things down for a bit.
Found this for dirt cheap. It's for a Supra, but from what I gather it will still fit, just be a foot short or so, so just need to add a chunk of pipe (or maybe me left over resonator or flex section) to extend it and it will fit.

For that price, I might just run it for now and modify it later with a better muffler because in the end I want this thing QUIET.

What's the trans coming out for again? I think I missed that...clutch?
I love how this project went from like fiddly stuff to suddenly yanking out the trans, like its not that different than you and freckles (rip) installing your stereo, just another item on a list. You rock dude! I can't wait to see this thing in action.

Re: Project Lex
Also, did that turbo blanket come black, or did you paint it? Looks pretty good in black I must say!

Re: Project Lex
Yeah clutch job. Just throwing in a cheap 6-puck ebay disc using the stock PP to get me by this year.
And yeah the turbo blanket came black already. Does look nice. Wonder what it will look like after a season of abuse though...

Re: Project Lex
Looks good!
Dude, just get a that Top Speed dual rear section that's already pre-made dual 2.25" (I think it was and I'm sure that's still better than a single 3") for $250 then get a Y of a 3" to dual 2.25". I personally hate SC's with one can and the two slots still in the back for two mufflers.
BTW, I have some extra stuff like some random -3 and -4 AN oil feed / brake lines + fittings/T's etc... Some oil drain fittings/hose/gaskets, etc...
Hit me up if you need something and I'll tell ya if I have it.

Re: Project Lex
This and then the rest can be made with another muffler on the single pipe before it splits to two.

Re: Project Lex
Cher I decided to listen to your advice, I'm not going to cheap out on that exhaust.
So I'm trying to decide what to do. Like I said I want this quiet. So I have a few things to decide on. What I do know is I'm going to run 3" all the way until it splits for dual. That point and on is where I'm unsure.
Dual 2.5 or dual 2.25? some info I've been considering:
The surface area of a 2.25" pipe is 3.97"
The surface area of a 2.5" pipe is 4.90"
The surface area of a 2.75" pipe is 5.93"
The surface area of a 3" pipe is 7.06"
The surface area of a 3.25" pipe is 8.29".
The surface area of a 3.5" pipe is 9.61".
So if I split to dual 2.25", the surface area is 7.9". which is about the same as a 3.25" single.
If I split to a dual 2.5", the surface area is 9.8" which is about the same as a 3.5" single.
Advantage of going 2.25 is slightly less cost, easier to route.
Advantage of going 2.5 is more flow (but do I really need it?).
Ant experts out there have any thoughts on that?

Re: Project Lex
i would just go with the 2.25 after the split. its easier to route and cheaper. as well as it will outflow the rest of the exhaust.
also if you wanna keep it quiet, i think you should add 2 resonators on the main 3" section. thats how its run on the TT 3/S cars and it sounds good. they are both 3 liter engine but the main differance being the strait 6 vs the V6
