Re: Question for you computer guys.

Definately won't need Scuzzy then. That's more for servers that have alot of disk I/O access. Not sure, but if you're using it for PCB design such as a CNC type machine where it routes the patterns and then drills the circuit holes you won't need a down right huge CPU either. To give you an idea, my dad owns a CNC machine that's 3 axis, X Y and Z. It's controlled by an older 386 computer. Most of the work is done on the Galil servo controller card therefore not needing a huge CPU. I'd say whatever choice you make on the motherboard, you'll be fine. Heck, i run AutoCad 14 on my 450MHz pc at home.

How big do your PCB's get? out of curiousity.....

Re: Question for you computer guys.

Most PCB software does have some CAD like similarities, but the autorouters are more like artificial intelligence. They have to figure out where to route all the traces without causing shorts or breaking certain guidelines. They have extremely complicated algorithms, some cost upwards of $30k per yearly license.I use a cheaper one that only runs $4k a year, so it's quite a bit slower. On one fairly complicated 4 layer board I did for a buddy once, it took my 1.5G P4 about 3 hours to complete.
