The spacer we sell is made of a glass/resin compound specifically designed as a thermal insulator. What Matt and Eric have said is correct. The fact is, you would like your entire system of piping/intake manifold etc to be cool after the IC. The routing of some piping makes it more likely to heat soak as does the material it is made from, but the goal always remains the same >> to keep it ALL as cool as possible. Wrap your pipes if they are heat soaking, pay attention to how they are routed try to keep underhood air temps as low as possible and use an insulating spacer.
