Re: wtf is tx 2k13?

Style trip next year would be sweet! I thought about using Carl's fwd laser as a group project car awhile back but didn't really pan out. I've always thought build a fwd light weight drag Dsm/colt would be sweet.

FWD, frumroll machine, I still think Honda when I think that (k20a2 machine, like my old RSX but in a old civic or something) but that in a DSM is so crazy it just might work.

The k24 frank would be my choice for any 4-banger application, boosted or non. However, the dollar per hp of our dumb old iron truck motors (4g63) is hard to beat.

That being said, we could take a page out of Honda's book and provide a silly amount of airflow with reduced cylinder pressure to further keep the costs down. God, this car would suck at everything but racing liter bikes... might be fun.

Re: wtf is tx 2k13?

I'd know a few liter bikes that'll run anything! haha

I'd be down to help wrench on something. I've also got a kirkey and nitrous setup I'd loan out to a donor car!

Re: wtf is tx 2k13?

Would be fun. I tried to kind of organize something maybe a year ago with carls laser, but money, time, space was kind of tough. Plus the debacle of everyone coming to the same decision, who owns equity in it in the end, etc.
But ill go ahead and say that I can put $500 rigyt now into the mix to be part owner of it for starters if we can figure out a way to make it work. I have no space though. Would be sweet to take it to the strip as well. Drag and from roll monster.

Re: wtf is tx 2k13?

Anyone think a shop would help out or give us space to work on the vehicle? I also have a 6 bolt motor and head we could use. If enough get invovled maybe start a thread or something.

Re: wtf is tx 2k13?

I will have room come spring time. I might be able to store the car at my house. on the weekends I pretty sure we could use my works shop. I would be willing to help out in this if we can all agree on stuff.

Re: wtf is tx 2k13?

I think the hardest part will be getting everyone to agree on some sort of terms. People will bump heads if a few invest a lot, and others don't yet still demand equal partnership. The smaller and more dedicated the group, the better.

Just my opinion.

This...

As cool as a site car would be its not plausible imo.

My dad shares like 5 cars with my uncle and they always butt heads. That is just two people...I am sure the pain will grow exponentially and itll end up being like our govt, where nothing gets done

Re: wtf is tx 2k13?

The only thing I would be hard set on is going auto transmission. cheaper and has proving to work. No missing gears and less likely to go boom.

Re: wtf is tx 2k13?

what if the car is only is only used for events like PG ect. Even if you have part ownership of the project you cant just take it out for joyrides whenever without permission from 2/3 of said owners.

And events would always come first. I dont see why it couldnt work. It would kinda be like a chump car for events and some weekend street duties.

Re: wtf is tx 2k13?

Agree it would be for events. If the group decides to hit the streets with it 1 day, as long as everyone agrees then OK.

Also I guess I don't envision it as the "sites car". It belongs to the group. If Style, or whomever, wanted to sponsor it, then OK they are a sponsor. Ownership remains in the hands of the group.

I'd be in depending on who else exactly is in, and if this is for real and done legit, not just some BS. Come up with a plan, a treasurer to account for all money/investments, etc. And like I said, I have $500 I am can pitch in for part ownership for starters.

Still gotta run it past the boss, but I highly doubt she'll say no

Re: wtf is tx 2k13?

I was just thinking build it for TX2k14, then part it out when finished. If we did it by a parts donation, then once finished people take their parts back. If parts break, well.. that's racing.

As stated, the hardest thing about something like this is the people management.

We've all been around these cars for a long time, and everyone has a lot of passion as to what their ultimate setup would be. For this to work, I think you would have to micro focus the intent of the vehicle to one specific function.... one ultimate goal. Broadening the scope allows for too many options and possibilities for debate.

That being said, let's try this... If a car was constructed for the sole purpose of attending TX2014 with the intent of getting rowdy with the big boys *with a realistic budget* what would you build -and why?

[This would be an idea of my setup]
  • FWD 1Gb with toenail to retain drag coefficient
  • Automatic Transmission
  • Enough turbo to supply 70-80 lbs/min... T4, straight side exit exhaust
  • Enough wheel and tire to hook at 60 MPH
  • Low enough cylinder pressure to keep axles, ring lands, head gaskets and studs happy
  • Engine screwed together to survive 9500 RPM
  • Airflow parts to be efficient at this RPM
  • Enough brake pad to brake boost and slow down from high speed
  • Curb weight no more than 2150lbs dry

Discuss...

I dont think it should be get parted out though. Building for 1 event doesnt seem worth the reward I guess.
