Re: Mitsubishi to return to WRC!?

Ah, that's a good point. It's been a few years since I watched WRC religiously, but I do remember seeing quite a bit of small cars making their way into the sport. Given that trend, Mitsu would definitely need a smaller car to be able to compete and that Colt would be the best bet.

I did hear rumors from Don Herring that the Colt would be making its way to the US as the new Mirage. Perhaps there is hope yet!

Even Hyundai ditched their relatively developed Veloster platform for their fugly little i20 to use in 2014 WRC.

If Mitsubishi does return it will need to be in a car much like their current competitors:
  • Ford Fiesta
  • Citroën DS3
  • Volkswagen Polo
  • Hyundai i20
  • BMW Mini
Personally I'd love to see a iteration of Mitsubishi Colt (which is still sold new in Japan) used as their next platform.
The Colt makes sense, and rumors are leaning in that direction too. The other thing to note is that the current WRC engine requirements are a 1.6L turbo gasoline powerplant, so how Mitsu plans to fit into that is going to be the most likely hurdle considering they've been dropping hints for years about the next Evo being hybrid and possibly diesel.

Time will tell regardless...

Re: Mitsubishi to return to WRC!?

^that would be nice. then it would go back to the evo 1-6 style of a light weight car.

They need to do somthing to get back into the US market. Mitsu needs more than just the evo. Alys parents bought a new outlander sport awd. It is really nice mini suv thing.
