Re: '99 GS-T

......doesn't everyone love when that isht happens?!

Anyway; another thread resurrection from the dead as I am so famous for doing. So what I did this past weekend was remove the engine and transmission from the car. There are a few reasons for this and I'll run over them "quickly".

The car started giving me issues with shifting about two years ago. It was primarily 1st to second. It ended up not allowing me to downshift to 4th or 2nd after I reached 5th gear. I would have to bring the car all the way to a stop, put it into 1st then slam it into second. Then all would be fine. Besides the ever so often grind. Then all of the sudden I just lost 2nd, 4th and reverse.

So I suspected the shifter cables or end bushing as I had literally just redone the shifter base. So I replaced the bushings with solid inserts/bearings. I also looked at the cables and didn't notice anything wrong. The car also burnt oil in an odd way. If I would touch boost at all when I came to a stop I would have a white cloud pass me. I suspected the valve stem seals as well as possibly the turbo.

Re: '99 GS-T

With those issues, plus 180,000ish miles I figured I might as well rebuild it since I am in the perfect position to do so. I am glad I made the decision to do this for many reasons. Some I will keep somewhat a secret until I get to them for...fun? Whatever you wanna' call it.

Here is one huge reason I am glad I pulled everything out...it really speaks for itself.

Yeah... I really haven't determined what did this. I kind of suspect the pressure plate may have been the wrong one. This is only because is seems to have almost a machined finish to it around the outer edge. Or possibly someone put the wrong pressure plate in, realized it after and just ground down the outer edge rather than replace it.

Either way, there's two holes in the case and a .3-.600" grove all the way around the inside. This is probably something some time with a tig could fix but time will tell. I have a transmission out of a 90,xxxx mile Spyder GS-T I'll put in just for time and money sake.

Hopefully next week I can get some picture of the block and everything since I have it all torn down.

Thanks for reading and make sure to check back!

I think you may have found your shifting issue.

Oh I found one hell of an issue! lol This car is going to be a completely different vehicle when it's done. I probably won't even want to sell it! Oh well.

I'll just leave that here. Not much progress has been made yet. Still trying to get parts together and the like.

Yep..

Re: '99 GS-T

Just thought I'd run through a few pictures of what we originally intended to tear this thing apart for.

Anyone see it? Bet not! It was pretty well...well, it was hidden. We didn't even really know about it. This was purely a summer duty car so it sat in storage a lot.

Not so bad, eh? Really its not. Oh, the other side you ask?

Pretty ugly though, huh? Wait until you see this!

Re: '99 GS-T

My dad and uncle tore the tower out. In the meantime I punched out a block to .040" and sleeved one of the cylinder due to odd wear.

I also deleted these stupid little main bearings oil starving POS' while I was at it.

We then ripped the tower out of a '98 Talon I had sitting around. Primed the tower and I threw it in a few months ago..partially anyway.

Now with a job figured out I hope things will start to sort of fall together.

Thank you sir. It hasn't been easy with so much stuff going on but it'll get finished some day. Hopefully I'll be able to get some stuff done on my weekends.
