Re: when do you know it's time to move on.

I've learned a few things in trying to sell my 97 GSX over the past three months. People looking for DSMs think they should be free. LOL But your story brings up the same point I tell people. If you want a cheap hacked up DSM for cheap, there are plenty of them out there. People don't realize the money pits and headaches they can become. And pretty soon your "cheap" DSM isn't so cheap.

I've been daily driving DSMs for the last 14 years and have put 180,000 miles on them. Only time I was left stranded was for a dead battery. DSMs are great cars, but only if you take care of them. Once they are beat to crap and modded poorly they will be as reliable as a $10 hooker.

It took me three months, but my GSX is finally getting sold today to a guy from NY. Should be gone by the end of the day. I'll miss it.

later,
Curt

Re: when do you know it's time to move on.

Congrats on the sale, Curt, hopefully it's going to a good owner.

I just want to reiterate what was said. Anybody can pickup a turbo Mitsu for inexpensive. However, the the amount of upkeep that is required to bring them back to life, upgrade, then replace parts, can be enormous.

It took the better part of 10 years to realize the cycle never ends: Upgrade car, enjoy car, car then breaks the next weakest link. Want to sell car, pussy out and fix car, enjoy car, car breaks again... you get the idea.

I did enjoy this for a few years, don't get me wrong, but I am at a point in life where the time commitment to fixing a toy is no longer practical. I think I am going to persuit a less powerful, but far more balanced vehicle... see how it goes.
