Re: Project RallyShark

Was the engine failure related to the coil dwell issue perhaps?

Re: Project RallyShark

Looks like you had some good crankcase ventilation going on there!!

Like I said before, I'm glad it wasn't an off-road excursion that ended that rally. Kinda sucked having to see the car dead on the road. But, there's always next rally!! You going to the one in May? Or do you think you'll sit out this season?

I'm sure it didn't help. Basically the dwell was just set too low, so the coils were not fully charging so spark was too weak as the RPM increased. We are suspecting that our oil got too hot (it was 30 weight, SM) and lost viscosity.

That or might have picked up a momentary hole in the oil supply over a jump.... or the OEM crank is too unbalanced for that sustained of RPM with stock clearances.

We are running a much thicker oil this year and keeping the RPM a little lower until we build a proper engine (balanced + dry sump)

Haha, yea... Thanks man! It was kinda momentum killer, but we're back this year:

We'll be at Rally Minnesota for sure, both the NT's and more than likely OFR unless we lose another engine...
