Have you ever done any farm work Tom? With planting in full swing there is a chance you could find some damn good temporary farm work until something more long term comes your way.

I worked at circuit city for 2 years and that is not where the money is at at all. i get paid more at Ultimate Electronics, plus we get more high end stereos in that pay more.
At compusa i did show up the last day and left on a good note. when i go in there i still chat with steve palacio and hes offered me a job many times but i didnt make enough there.
What im truely looking for is like a IT helpdesk job. and mike i do have skills, i take offence to your comment.

Take offense all you want, I have seen your skills, need me to bring them up and remind you? I have had a ton of people work IT for me tom, I am telling you the market is flooded with guys with your level and better that are making much less than you are after. Matt D is a perfect example, he has more experience and is working at target. I had a ton of guys working for me at help desk positions that were making no more than 10 an hour and all kinds of stupid windows certs. MCSE included. They all said the same thing, windows doesn't pay because everyone knows it. You have to be in the upper end of windows techs with other qualifications usually consisting of decent programming skills and good network skills and don't tell me you have them I know better.

BTW, I didn't post here just to rip on your skills, you need more money, I think you should look in places were you might find it. Warehouse work is all over and pays decent, work in that trade for a while until you find something in the field you want that pays well.

Tom, we chatted on AIM a few days ago and I pointed out to you some warehouse/manufacturing jobs that were starting out near $10/hour, possibly more, and even more than that if you take a 2nd shift position that includes a shift differential. Blue collar jobs aren't glamorous, but they put money in your pocket. Such things could even lead you to going back to school to learn more about the trade such as machining, engineering, welding, etc.
The position that Tom is in is exactly why I've said fuck the IT industry and corporate America. I've decided I've spent too much time in my short life behind a desk having other people tell me what to do. This next year I will be going back to school to learn a new trade, in the automotive field most likely, with the ultimate goal of being on my own with my own business.

As far as I'm concerned you can never go wrong with going back to school. If you can't afford it, find a way, if there's a will there's a way.

Like Mike said, specialization is the key. A normal machinist makes $12 - $20/hr. In the field I was in (citizen swiss) it was $18 - $29/hr at a normal place. Being a machinist is also cool because you can make toys for your car! If you get your 2 year tech degree you should start out around $15/hr.

If I remember right, the oil refinery down the street from my house has a manual labor starting pay of $20+ an hour. Its probably more now, since refineries are considered terrorist targets.

it is hard to get in the IT door. I got lucky with my internship turning into a job.
most certs mean shit to me(minus very few). I know quite a few MCSE nt4, 2k pro, 2k adv guys who in all honesty, are STUPID.
The word paper cert is thrown into my head.
work experience is kinda good. But the last part time dude that we hired at the courthouse had 3 yrs of IT support experience for CESA and a school district. Dude didn't know how to setup a Win 2k machine from scratch. He was a ghost bitch.
tom can learn, he learned quite a bit at cusa when we were both there. Sure tom we wetarded at times. But who isn't when they first start??
just keep plugging away,
I went quite a long time before I got my job at cusa. Started having to sell those stupid cameras. Then I got into the tek shop. Sadly enough, the time I spent in the tech shop me able to get my current job.(req'd 2yr of work experience)

I swear to god does this guy ever think before something leaves his obivously demented head and hits his keyboard. Way to be a biggot you asshole. People like you deserve to be castrated forcefully with no analgesic to prevent you from spreading your extra chromosome filled seeds. And I will not retract this comment if it was a "joke" or if any moderator thinks I am out of line.

Dont mind him, it seems to be that time in his "cycle" or something. Or maybe he got banned off another forum or blew up another motor from hammering the bearings in place. We may never know, but in any case he likes to take all of his angst out by making a complete ass of himself on this forum.

Yes he was, and that's why I am leaving Matt's comment. In this case I'm gonna moderate it by letting people tell him what a dumbass he is making himself out to be and also let him completly get stupid so I can justify banning him this time around.

racist dumbass
Tom, warehouse/assembly line work pays well. I had been at general mills 9 months and I was making 15.11/hr. Not bad work, kinda fun, but not my thing. I was due for another $.50 raise if I would of stayed 2 more months.
3rd shift + skilled (forklift) + grunt (heavy lifting, palatizing)= hella $$ for a 'entry level' job
think about it.

I don't see the reason you have to rip on him. It is a fact that many mexicans (or I guess Texicans) come up to MN just to farm in the summer and then go back to Texas for the winter. If you have spent anytime in a small farming community, you would've seen this. Most of the field work on those farms in the summer is done by hispanics. It's nothing racist, it's just a way of life. They are cheaper labor but they get paid more up here than they do down there.
I think you need to broaden your horizons a little and do a little research before YOU open your mouth and stick your whole foot down it. I don't know who is behind the screen of "Conquests are better" nor do I condone some of his pasts posts, but he was in no way out of line in the comment about mexicans working in the fields.
