Re: New dsm to minnesota?

I bought my car from the same situation, a kid who had not a clue about the car but bought if from someone who built it. Luckily my dad is a smart man, got the original owners info from the title and called the first owner down in Georgia. Mine ran rich because it was supposed to have an AFC that had been stolen, and the kid I got it from had no idea. Moral of the story is don't believe everything you hear. Do your research.

Guy sounds like he has no friggen clue what he is talking about.

I pray to God that I'm wrong, cause if you buy this, it might be a nightmare. If he did it all himself, who knows what could be wrong with it. If he paid a shop to do it all, his money and intelligence ratio is way off... and his intelligence is the part that is heavily lacking.
this.

It looks clean but if I'm going to buy a 'reliable' dsm, I would personally go take a look at it. Even if it's modded correctly by the previous owner, you don't know what the current owner has done to the car...unless you personally drive the car itself to see it for yourself. Like others have said on here, you can find better ones here in the forums and locally. I've been DD'ing the Galant for 2 proud years through winter and summer. I'd wouldn't take the risk and just buy locally

Re: New dsm to minnesota?

It would easily make over 400hp, but most people talk flywheel numbers to the general public, only us car guys talk in wheel horsepower. So figuring 350whp=400hp, this should be easily doable.

It is a clean car, but you are taking your chances driving a car all the way across the country after just buying it. Although I did this yesterday, bought a 160k mile Acura TL in Kansas City, jumped in and drove 80mph all the way home, no problemo. Just be prepared if something happens and get out your credit card.

research alot more if you're not sure. I'd suggest getting a car that is stock but I don't think that is going to happen. If you purchase a modded dsm, you don't know how much abuse it has taken. I researched/read online/asked around for a good 3-4 years before getting the galant and I know enough to do what I like in the car. The only reason why DSMs are known to be shit is because of shitty owners.

Well on the 2nd video you posted, at 1:35, he goes to the cluster and it's sitting at 1500rpm and then he revs it.

And do all DSMs have an A/F curve at idle that the gauge hops around so much? I never had one on my DSM, but on my SRT, it moves between 14.7 and 15.2 at idle only.

Just trying to point out possible issues, not trying to give you crap.

Re: New dsm to minnesota?

^Mine hops around a ton at idle, but that's because of the cams. At Idle, it's tuned to run a bit lean, since the engine isn't working hard, so it needs just enough fuel to stay running.

Re: New dsm to minnesota?

well i want to get rid of my fwd and get awd it doesn't have to be this spectacular car, im sixteen and can't afford a super nice car, therefore talons and eclipses are in my price range and i wouldn't mind some tasteful mods to make it go faster but im not to familiar mechanically wise with cars but i have some buds that can help me with things if they go wrong so im not too worried about that i just don't want it breaking down constantly so i was asking you guys what you thought

Yeah makes sense, this one doesn't have cams though. Or at least isn't listed in the FS ad.

why not keep your current one then? Older cars will tend to break more often especially if the previous owner hasn't taken good care of it. If you want to go fast, I'd suggest reading/researching online more about how to properly mod a DSM. DSMs will make you a mechanic, a reason why a tried to sell the galant, but right now I'm not going to do so because plans are changing .

Re: New dsm to minnesota?

I say you just start collecting parts for an AWD swap if that is the only part you don't like about the car. I know others on here have done it.

Re: New dsm to minnesota?

I wouldn't even invest the time/energy/money into converting a 1g fwd to awd even if I had all the tools in the world unless I was a rich zillionaire. lol. I guess you can get the awd but like I've said in every single post...RESEARCH
