Re: removing the awd system from tranny

Perhaps the 2g install will be easier to understand.http://vfaq.com/mods/clutch-2G.html

I can't tell in your picture. Is there a seperation under your blue line? Honestly it's been a while since I've done this. I'd go out and look at mine but I bet it's still hot out....

If you want to get a good idea of what the mating points between axle and tranny are just pull the drivers side one first. It doesn't need to be pried.

And wear gloves. Knuckle busting is inevitable.

Re: removing the awd system from tranny

drivers on is out... didnt need to be pried like u said...

In that pic, the tranny is above and the thing im pulling out is below, but looks like it would be hard to get in there and pry it

Wow.
Transfer case is held on by 5 bolts. That might need some coaxing to get it off the output shaft. Then make sure to support the center driveshaft.
On the front passanger side axle
It would be best to pry alongside the axle/transmission meeting point UNDER the car as there is a bit more room for a pry-bar/even application. A quick "pop" motion should dislodge the axle from the transmission.
Good luck.

Jeez, newbs helping newbs. No, you don't have to separate the axles from the hubs, just undo the 2 bolts between the strut and the hub. Niterydyr is right for the T-case and you also need to get the DP out of the way, the t-case sits right beside it. There are also 2 bolts holding the intermediate shaft on (drivers side axle) if you haven't found them yet, 14mm.

LEADING THE

If you are really this new to working on these cars, get a copy of the DSM service manual cds. They are really nice.

You can seperate the strut from the hub assembly as metioned above or the ball joint. The axles will pop out of the FWD portion of the transmission with a pry-bar. Be sure to remove the two bolts holding driver's side axle support bearing. The transfer case is easy to remove once the down pipe is out, as mentioned above. Just remove the bolts and will easily slip off the intermediate shaft.

Do you not then have to swing the hub outward and seperate the two?

Re: removing the awd system from tranny

Yeah I forgot the mention removing the downpipe and unbolting the hubs/seperating the axles on that end, I assumed he would atleast be that far.
Thanks for the back-up posts guys.

You might get it running again. Just remember cars need oil to run. Unless you like buying new engines.

If you cannot read up on how to remove the transmission/transfer case...

GET SOMEONE TO HELP YOU

This is mostly a local site, and most of us are broke/sober enough to do it for cheap/beer

Actually, it's just about 1 day old. Don't be a dick when people try to help you with something that appears to be over your head.
