HAHA who tagged the thread with jdm? I don't think CF wheels would save that much weight, the fronts are only 9.5lbs and the rears are 12lbs.

Carbon wheels really don't save much if any from experience.

I say from experience in an off-road context. Unfortunately I haven't been able to weigh any on road ones personally. I will look for some samples next time I'm out looking at molds and prototypes though from some carbon suppliers.

Re: 2007 Lotus Exige S

Got the new wheels and tires on. Previous setup was 16/17" TR Motorsports F1 wheels which were a double 4 spoke square shape, new ones are 15/16" Volks CE28N with 8 equally spaced spokes. New wheels are lighter, though overall wheel+tire weights are identical because I have about an inch wider tires all around now. OEM widths are 195/225, now running 225/245 plus I get to run the Proxes RA1 which aren't available in the OEM 16/17 diameters.

The sidewall looks pretty huge compared to what I am used to, but I'm sort of digging it, they look meaty. The new wheels are flat black but have a tiny bit of shine that should go away after a few miles of driving. The old wheels used to have a little shine too but the mega brake dust basically matches the tire color, which I like.

Before/After pics.:

Next on my list is the APR wing sitting in the garage. It's about as wide as the car, and puts down about 180lbs of downforce at 100mph, a lot more than the 60lbs the stock wing provides. Yes, you can call me a ricer for having a big wing, I'll have pics soon.

I can't believe the OEM tire sizes! 195 is like a pizza cutter.

The new rim/tire set looks bad ass. Looks super aggressive!

Light car doesn't need huge tires. Our 2100lb Chumpcar had more lateral grip in the corners with 205s on it than our heavy Evo with 245s on it of the same kind of tire.

245s on the back of that thing probably look huge.

Looking good Andrew, with how light the car is, this setup should not not loose any steering feel with the taller sidewall. The car should also be a bit more forgiving at the limit too. Very nice setup!

Skinny tires also work better for stance.
