Nah it's my buddy Austin. I'll call and ask him if he's done with it. If he is, I'll get you in touch with him.

Re: Make slowboy not so slow
Brandon, I'm almost done with the hoist, I could probably drop it off next week or so.
A few updates, I got the motor and tranny all out of the black gsx parts car, and swapped the good tranny into my talon. Now that I've used all the parts I want off the gsx, it's time to put it back together.
Last night Mark and I took apart the bad motor from the gsx, it was pretty interesting, first time seeing a motor apart like that. The one rod that broke through the block was U shaped, it froze the crank and we couldn't get either out of the block (I'll snap a pic tonight). Fortunately the trasmission wasn't hurt in the whole ordeal. We also got the head off my original motor from the talon that I thought blew a headgasket.
However, we couldn't see anywhere that it looked bad, so now I have no idea why the car overheated in less than 5 minutes. It was blowing out a lot of smoke from the tailpipe with any boost at all, would it be possible to not see where it was blown on the gasket? Compression wasn't bad either on the motor.
Anyway, tonight we'll probably get the good block and good head all put together and get the belts all set. Haven't decided about hooking up AC yet, does anyone know what type of freon the 95 uses? Can I buy a cheap recharge bottle just to get it working for the sale?

Re: Make slowboy not so slow
From 1995 onward they started using the R-134 refidgerant. So as long as the system doesnt have any leaks, you can just get those recharge kits to refill the system.
Good to see everything coming together!

the only thing you can legally buy without the proper papers is r-134

Re: Make slowboy not so slow
Sweet. I'll probably spend the extra minutes to hook up the AC piping then and recharge it after the car is working.
Any ideas on what else could have caused the overheating? I checked out the water pump tonight and it's crusty on the outside but looks mint inside. I still swapped it out for the known good one but probably didn't matter. Anyway I'll probably have it put together by the end of the weekend, head and block are all cleaned up and ready to put back together.

Re: Make slowboy not so slow
You replaced the water pump with a used one?.. Where did you take the block to deck it, and to machine the head? Or did it not need that, im assuming it wasnt warped.
Not sure what could have caused the overheating. Either water pump seized/broke, not enough coolant, blockage in the radiator or piping, or maybe the thermostat was stuck.

Re: Make slowboy not so slow
The water pump off the gsx looked almost new, I think he said there was less than a couple thousand miles after all the timing and water pump stuff was replaced. And the gsx head shouldn't have been warped, the only thing wrong was the rod broke, head was still in great shape.
The overheating happened after the first 1st gear pull I did with the 20g and it spiked to like 24psi so I'm pretty sure it was just the headgasket, pretty big coincidence something else happened at that exact time. Guess I'll find out this weekend.

Re: Make slowboy not so slow
Ah, finally tuned.
Big thanks to Shane (ecoli), especially for dealing with all the issues that came up throughout the day.
Did a third gear pull just before coming into downtown (only place without traffic on drive home), car feels awesome. Feels like my t28 did in 2nd gear, can't wait for an opportunity to do a 2nd through 4th pull.
I've nearly maxed out my boost gauge, 28psi falling to 26 by redline. In third gear it doesn't hit peak boost until after 4k rpms, but in 5th it's a lot sooner.

Re: Make slowboy not so slow
I meant the rate of acceleration, t28 in 2nd felt like it does now in 3rd, thats a pretty huge change. I guess I can post a graph, just for you Scheides.
Shane had it to something like 405 a few times, but I think he said he backed off the timing a little for a safer tune.
Seems to be a pretty healthy powerband, I'm very pleased with the results, now I have to not touch anything in order to have a direct comparison to DynoJet on the 27th.

Re: Make slowboy not so slow
Sorry, I'm just excited, I can't even remember how many boost leak tests we've done on that car Awesome. Torque is pretty late for a 2.3 IMHO, but makes damn good power up top! Gonna keep her together now?

Great numbers Andrew. My connection sucks here, but what turbo are you running now a days?

Re: Make slowboy not so slow
Yea I guess I should post major mods now that the car is mainly "complete".
2.3 liter
FP red turbo (60-1 size)
FP4r cams
JMF intake
I'm happy with the numbers, torque is lower than I expected but no big deal. I wonder how close I am to maxing out the turbo, not sure what max boost could be on a stroker.
