Re: 1997 GSX - DD, RR, and 11's.
Ya car was parked in my garage amd just took a quick shot before work.
But you can see it clear as day once you know what you're looking for.
The middle gauge holder must have dropped down while it was being glued or something. Caused 2 issues.
1) the middle gauge is slightly angled towards the driverside gauge, and not perfectly flat like the other 2.
2)the angle makes the middle gauge closer to the driverside one so they don't appear to be evenly spaced apart.
I had 2 people at work see it with in 10seconds.
I just don't know if I want to wait another 8 weeks. Or if I'll be able to not care about the flaw.
My OCD is weird some things just bother the hell out of me and this one is borderline.
But some how the grey dash is ok even though the rest of the interior is now black (seats don't count as I plan to get race seats shortly.

Re: 1997 GSX - DD, RR, and 11's.
Decided to just keep the pod. Went ahead and wired up all the gauges. I still need to make the final decision on either getting a Trans temp gauge, oil pressure gauge for turbo pressure, or if I should located the battery cut off in the remaining hole.
I don't like having the A/F gauge below the boost gauge. So I'll be moving it up into the open hole probably later this week.

Re: 1997 GSX - DD, RR, and 11's.
If you were going to paint something regardless. Would you still go with carbonfiber?
Or would you get fiberglass instead?
Anyone know weight difference between the 2 as well say for a hood?

Re: 1997 GSX - DD, RR, and 11's.
Weight depends on the type of carbon fiber. The nice woven sheets with shiny epoxy that look pretty (wet) weigh a lot more than dry carbon pieces that would normally be painted. I think dry is like half the weight of wet cf.
Both are still lighter than fiberglass. Each piece will differ based on thickness, etc. For one example, on the lotus the front of the car is one giant piece of fiberglass. A carbon equivalent is about one third the weight.

You'll save about 30 lbs if memory serves me well.

You said hood? Hoods are usually Fiberglass, with a layer of CF on top for looks.

Depends on how much you pay I guess haha. I'm sure there are full CF hoods available.

Oh, yea.
I had a VIS on that old Avenger I had. Pretty similar front end wise to the 2g. The 2g parts fenders/hood/headlights/front bumper up actually bolt up with a little modification. Hoods are almost identical. Anyways, I want to say I lost about 30 lbs and it was grp underside on it. Doesn't help the stock is like 42 or 44 lbs I think?

But its a toss up as I also may do a built tyranny. Stock ones still going Strong but its original.

Re: 1997 GSX - DD, RR, and 11's.
Well on the way home today from work. I decided to do a pull as i had just finished prior to work, bleeding my clutch and setting the engagement. And......
Well the clutch held just fine however in pretty sure I blew my hx40 turbo which has about 4000 miles on it now. Will pull the intake pipe tomorrow to verift if there is shaft play etc.
But:
24psi when it happened and was at 8500rpms. I was logging at the time of incident.
I now can't boost at all (i think its locked down for reasons below) goes to 0 on the gauge and stays. Absolutely not turbo spool sound (hx's are normally loud)
There was tons of smoke (1am hard to see color)
Oil on/from the center section of the turbo
Exhaust got like 1/2 as loud as it usually is almost sounded stock.
Car backfires and sputters on decal really badly
And oil pressure dropped from 80 to 58 by the time I got home
At least I still have the HX35 in the garage. Not sure what would have caused this. I have a -12an drain with a -4 line (restricted to -3an) fed from oil filter housing.

Re: 1997 GSX - DD, RR, and 11's.
Well turbo spins. But has a lot of up and down and side to side play.
Looks like it started to rub on the compressor cover.
You can see scrap marks on the bottom on the inlet in the picture

Re: 1997 GSX - DD, RR, and 11's.
Yeah that doesn't look good. I assume the oil feed is off the filter housing? 4000 miles is low for a turbo even at 24psi.

Re: 1997 GSX - DD, RR, and 11's.
Yep It's From The Oil Filter housing.
I plan to put my Hx35 back on but.i am kind of nervous as not sure what caused the failure.

Re: 1997 GSX - DD, RR, and 11's.
Yep turbo is trashed.
But what I don't get is. It almost looks like something came through the exhaust side. There is no up down, side to side play on the exhaust side. But several of the fins are missing. Any thoughts of what would have caused this?
Also found my O2 housing is cracked.

Re: 1997 GSX - DD, RR, and 11's.
That doesnt look good at all, not sure what would have done that unless something went through it. At least it wasnt the compressor side that blew apart.
