Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX

Me and my dad finished up the wiring harness. I also got most of it installed, just need to do a few modifications to make it work. Took a few pics:

Here you can see where I mounted the injector resistor box, and the defroster relay along with the other diagnostic plugs for setting/checking timing, fuel pump, etc. I'm also mounting the fuse block that usually sits on the positive battery post into the glove box:

Here is the new clutch disc:

I'm likin the clutch disk! My plans are to redue the whole wiring harness and take out everything that I don't need. Then re-run it through the bottom center of the fire wall. I'm gonna try and hide ALL the wires. But we'll see what happens..

Good luck man. I was originally going to run them through a custom hole right under where the shifter cables go through the firewall but obviously I decided not to. It's quite the pain in the ass un-wrapping the harness but once you get going on it, it's pretty simple. Just man hours.

Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX

Yeah it takes a lot of patience, but my car doesn't get driven all that often and not in the winter. So that should give me enough down time to get it all done. When do you plan on having you're car finished?

It'll never be finished, however I hope to be driving it in the next few weeks.

Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX

Clutch is in and torqued to 16 ft. lbs., 95% of the wiring is done, turbo is on, and the oil pan is off. I can't believe how thin that oil pan gasket is. I was expecting a cork gasket or something, not what looks like paper thin material.

Tomorrow the transmission goes in. I hope everything goes good.

Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX

Well I picked the hottest day ever (monday) to put the transmission put in, but I got it done with the help of my local friend Carl. It didn't go too bad honestly. Carl said this was about 3 times easier than an awd tranny. I just hope this tranny won't leak.

I really hope this turbo lasts till the end of this year at least. It's not a big deal if it pukes early, I still have my 14b I can just swap into the hotside.

I get paid today so I'll be able to pick up a few gaskets I need and start to make some more progress. Still have some wiring to do, but it's all simple stuff.

Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX

Got some more done today. Wiring is done. Intake mani is on. Waiting on a tb gasket to arrive monday. Mostly waiting on my shit to get back from sand-blasting. The guy is doing it for nothing so I'm not going to be one to rush. As of right now, things look good to make it to the up coming winona autoX in a week or 2.

I tried out all the lights and everything seems to be squared away with my wiring. I just hope the engine fires up and has no issues.

Pics:

Here is where I put the chassis fuse box:

I have the fuse box bolted down as of now, the pic was a bit early. I also got the MAF-T in there, I just have to extend the harness for the sensor:

I'm getting very excited to hear it start up for the first time in a few months.

Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX

Here's a pic. You can see a little 90 degree bracket I made and then the other mounting tab just lined right up with an existing hole.

Nice. Little bit cleaner than mine. You're going to have your talon at the cookout, right?

Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX

So how important is it to be easy on the car for 500 miles for the clutch break in?

Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX

some people follow the break in period religiously others just drive regular from the start.

your fwd so if you were easy on it for a while just to get it seated to the flywheel and pressure plate it should work fine. i did some city driving in my civic with an xtd stage 3 just for like 50 or so miles takin it easy and then just romped on it. It held great till i sold the car grabbed awesome with slicks on.

Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX

With my Competition Stage 4, it took about 2 weeks of driving back and forth to work (~400 miles) to get the clutch to fully break in. I only really got on it once about a week after I put it in and it held fine, but I was never hard on it from a stop or between shifts. Now it holds great, and engagement is really nice. I still haven't launched with it yet though.

Re: Getting the Laser ready for AutoX

Thanks for the input guys. I'll have to do a lot of daily city driving for a couple weeks to get it broke in. I was hoping to make it to the autocross here in town next week, but it's not looking that way. I'm fwd so there's a lot less drivetrain stress compared to awd. Should be easier on the clutch.

Great news! I started her up last night to pull it into the garage! Ran fine with the open o2 housing lol. Don't know if the neighbors liked it.

Leaking from what appears to be the oil pan still though. It's pissing me off. I'll be going out there today and taking a look at it. Started putting the i/c pipes back on last night after I pulled it in, but got really pissed off at the 90 bend right after the j-pipe. So i gave up. I'll put the pipes together today, address those leaks, and then DRIVE IT!

Took some pictures of what the completed project looks like, however, it has some big issues as explained in my other thread in the drivetrain section.
