Re: 1997 GSX - DD, RR, and 11's.

Well after discussing with justin on tuners about rebuilding my 7 blade hx35w. My wife actually told me to find another one just in case....get an answer like that and well you just say yes dear and be grateful.

So anyrate was between a used fp black and hx40

And ended up with the hx40 in the bep55 housing. Has 10 track passes on it. Owner got deployed and while he was gone had his motor built and upgrades to fpsuper99

I didnt want to change manifolds or 02housing so this worked for me. I wasn't looking to max out the turbo si the bep housing is fine.

Im still sending my hx35 to be rebuilt. So ill get a comparison between the two and then keep the one I like best amd sell the other one.
they are both 7 blade turbos.

Re: 1997 GSX - DD, RR, and 11's.

Well the new turbo arrived hxsuper40 in the bep housing.

Look forward to getting it hopefully installed this weekend. Before little man shows up anyday now.

I also got the clips ordered that I needed to put the stock side skirts on the car.

I painted them along with the front bumper last weekend. But it has been raining, followed by heavy polin which turns everything green around here, ever since so i haven't gotten a chance to take pictures

Re: 1997 GSX - DD, RR, and 11's.

So had a bit of a disheartening find over the weekend.

So I know I've been finding little things that lead me to believe my car actually started as a talon and not an eclipsr that the previous claimed.

And now im even questioning if it even started life as turbo car at all.
I had painted my sideskirtsnand front bumper a few weeks ago. And i just needed the clips to install the side skirts. So I ordered all the clips I needed to install the side skirts and they arrived last week.

Previously i had only done mock ups as I didnt have any pushpin and just put bolts in the ends to hold them in place.

Long story short driver side I found the holes drilled for the push pins dont line 100% hopefully enough do.

So for the first time I went to check the passengerside. Amd low and behold there isn't a single hole for side skirts on that side at all.

And from what I've found so far seems only the rs model came with out side skirts?

And my other bad luck I had over the weekend was my new turbo super hx40(10 track passes then wad parked owner was deployed). It came with broken studs in the exhaust housing. And although I had luck drilling them out. On one of th holes when I went to use my rethread tool it wouldn't turn either way when I was 3/4 way down, i snapped it iff in the hole trying to back it out. And so far nothing I have seems to be able to drill that out.
So I went ahead and just ordered another bep exhaust housing.

Re: 1997 GSX - DD, RR, and 11's.

N/A cars had the neon motor, totally different motor mounts. Haha I just had a funny thought of your car having a turbo 420a in it.
And your title should tell you if your car started life as an Eagle or Mitsubishi. And should also specify the trim level. You can find out all the info by the VIN.

Re: 1997 GSX - DD, RR, and 11's.

your car would have been a turbo to start with. if it was a na 420a the engine would have sat the other way same as a evo. you can not swap a 4g63 dsm motor into a na 2g with out a ton of work.

****add on: looked at all the pics of your car it is a 2gb talon with eclipse bumpers on it. the doors and qt. panels have the holes in them for the side strakes. 97-98 2gb talons did not come with side skirts on them since they had the side strakes.****

the only way to get a broken tap out is to brake it apart chisel and hammer or diamond bits to grind it out. done it a lot of times both ways to fix turbo housings for guys

What does the title say it is? Does the VIN number on the dash match with other places on the car? If a door doesn't have the mounting holes, that door could've easily been replaced in the past with a base model door.

Yep, exactly right. I have a set of core pins I use for breaking them out (punch press pins). They do make diamond bits you can use in a die grinder that will work. The biggest issue there is not messing up the threads that are in there already too badly. I would try breaking it out first. Big whacks since the tap is strong but brittle.

Depending on how much more money in have to spend getting the car running again.

Might send you my old housing to fix / finish. So hopefully I can sell it and get some money back.

This is the other thing that has since raised questions. I know the dash gauges have been swapped out.

The doors do not have holes for the lower plastic panels that the eclipses had.

Only the side slash holes or what ever they are called the talon came with.

And as far as the vin goes the only vin still left that I've found is on the dash. I never ran a vin check on the car figured for the price and what my intentions for the car I was willing to skip it. (Supposed to be just a weekend / track car not really my full time daily.)

But after changing n my interior to black and everything else im finding (maybe im just to paranoid now) but looks like maybe the dash vin was swapped. It looks like its held on with I think they are called rivets.

Which maybe standard I cant remember what my old cars looked like.

And the title does state eclipse gsx.

But I even asked about that. You're supposed to tell the dmv if you change colors of your car and if you changed body styles. Ie like eclipse to talon etc. Probably has to do with , if a cop runs your tags what the descriptions comes up like

Title states GSX? That is so odd... is the title clean? Steering wheel is even a talon wheel. I would run a carfax on it and see what it shows. Maybe you have a swapped chassis or something else is going on.

Dash VIN is held on by rivets, so that is right. I would do like Peter said and run a carfax on it.

Re: 1997 GSX - DD, RR, and 11's.

Dash VIN is held on with rivets, but not that hard to swap dashes.

There should be a vin etched into the firewall, look at that. Each body panel should have a vin tag on it as well.

This shows where most VINs are located on vehicles. Strange that you are missing some.

Re: 1997 GSX - DD, RR, and 11's.

re-looked at all the pics of your car it is a more likely a 2gb talon with eclipse bumpers on it. the doors and qt. panels have the holes in them for the side strakes. 97-98 2gb talons did not come with side skirts on them since they had the side strakes. so no holes for side skirts or holes in the bottom of the doors for the door caps

way to check quick.

if the mounts for the rear bumper were moved up. they are welded on. talon bumpers brackets are low and eclipse are high.
eclipse spots

after I moved them for the talon.

you would be able to see if the mounts were moved since they are spot welded to the car and have to be drilled off and re mounted to the high spots for the eclipse. I have also seen guys not bolt the center and use long bolts and spacers on the sides to mount eclipse rear on a talon.

Re: 1997 GSX - DD, RR, and 11's.

So the "new" hx40 bep housing showed up from extremepsi.com

And im not impressed. The two gaskets I ordered with it were bent to shit as they were just tossed in a zip lock bag and put in the box with the housing. I did what I could to try to flatten them out.

And then moved onto the housing and the casting looks like crap.
There are 3 holes in the housing where they drilled to far and went all the way through to the inside of the housing.

Where they flattened out the parts you bolt the housing to the manifold and o2 housing they didnt fill the metal off the edges so there's sharp crap everywhere. Even on the inside.

Looks like someone used a Drexel tool to try to clear some of it and it got away from them and skipped the bit across the side of it.

Posting picts, tell me what you think. Anyone with experience with these housing please let me know of this is normal and I nees to do the clean up myself or should I just return it amd ask for an exchange.
