Re: Project Lex
Well was hoping to have a lot more progress on this by now, but the wife and I came down with a pretty bad flu bug so haven't been to active.
Here's the little bit I've gotten done.
- Flywheel got the new friction surface on.
- Had two bolts welded into the adapter plate to act as studs for the starter. Drilled the start holes out. Worked out great. Thanks a million Kerry!
- Mounted adapter back onto motor.
- Mounted flexplate and FW adapter to motor (loctite)
Went to mount the FW, but I think I need some different hardware. The ARP ones don't work with my JWT Flywheel But all is good, Collins is sending me some socket head bolts that should do the trick

Re: Project Lex
It's all 350z components. So 350z lightweight JWT flywheel. And 350z JWT clutch w/ upgraded metallic disc.

Re: Project Lex
Motor is in. Man putting this pig in makes me realize how easy I had it with my 1G DSM, lol.
Scheides, the first picture is just for you.
BTW anyone looking for a cheap oil change, Oreilly is having a sale. $11.99 for 5qt Oreilly oil and Microguard filter. Not a bad option for the DD!

Re: Project Lex
Sweet! Good work man! Are you going to get it back up and running with the old IM setup or will you jump right into that project next?

Re: Project Lex
Right now I think I'm nervous enough about what I've done so far, so I'll just try to get it running/driving as-is. Save the intake mani and ignition for later.

Re: Project Lex
Got some more misc parts.
- 350z Clutch slave from Vatozone.
- New Gates upper and lower radiator hoses from oh oh oh.
- New WG springs. I believe the one I have in there is a 7psi spring. These are a 5 and a 10. So with all 3 in there I should be at a base psi of 22psi. Should be a good base setting I think, then turn it up to 30-35 with the MBC.

Re: Project Lex
Got the WG springs installed. I bought the wrong combo so I could only get 2 in there. So I have the 10psi and the 5psi in there. So 15psi base for now. I'll get a different 3rd one eventually because I want a higher base spring pressure than that.
Got the shifter linkage cut down, and big thanks to Momin for welding it up for me! I got that back installed, along with that new shifter base bracket. Got my preliminary hole cut in the tunnel. Shifter looks like it will be near where the ash tray is. would like to modify the shifter if possible. Also installed the new clutch slave cylinder.
Got more of the motor put together. I have a lot of things just finger tight for now for fitting everything together. But pretty good progress. Hopefully get a little more done tomorrow and then I head outta town for a couple weeks so she will just sit.

Re: Project Lex
Got a little done today. Big thanks to Joel for picking up a -10AN fitting from MAP from my drain line. I decided to try Earl's youtube method of cutting the SS Braided Line (using a chisel). Worked like a charm!
So got the new drain line done and installed. Bolted the turbo down but need to find some safety wire to wire the bolts up. Got the radiator and shroud installed. Found I broke off one of the soldered wires (must have happened while pulling the engine) so re-soldered that. Ran the harness back into the inside of the car. Continued just hooking things up as I came across them.
Couple questions, in case by some random chance anyone here knows.
Where does this wire go? Obviously it hooks to the negative of the batter, but no idea where the other end goes.
Also anybody know what this is supposed to plug into? I have it labeled as intake manifold, but I don't see anywhere for it to go. Maybe it went to the EGR stuff I removed?

Re: Project Lex
That negative battery terminal should just be grounded to the chassis.

Re: Project Lex
Yep, looks like the wire goes to the firewall or fender, with the middle one going to the engine.

Re: Project Lex
Someone on the Lexus forum said it bolts right to the block, which rings a bell as I feel like I remember removing one from there now. Thanks for the pointers!!
