How much are you looking to spend on a turbo?

Re: My Newest project....
Ya know. I am not sure. I have been looking at turbos that range 300-600. I would like to keep it closer to the 300 if possible. But I know that limits what I can look at.
Really, I guess right now I am just looking for something to get the car running and driving. But I would hate to buy two turbos. One now, than one down the road.
And I have been trying to read up on turbos for the DSM's. But still trying to learn on that stuff.
I found a couple 16g's on tooners, and also a PTE GT3255bolt on turbo. But couldn't find much info on it.
Like I said there is a bunch of options out there. I am just unsure of what will fit my application.

Re: My Newest project....
Well..did a little work tonight seems as how I had some spare time. I finished cleaning the old gasket off the front case. Installed the BSE and reassembled the oil pump. I also installed the ARP main studs tonight that way I can take it back to the machine shop tomorrow. Hopefully they wont have it long. I guess I will find out what his work schedule is and go from there.

Re: My Newest project....
Good choice on getting it checked out after the main studs. Better safe than sorry.
Bolt on MHI turbos are going to be more in your price range. Could also look for a T28, which should be able to net you your 300hp through a FWD. However, I believe they are a little harder to find, compared to 16g's.

Re: My Newest project....
Well. Got a couple packages in the mail today. Got my DSM Link and my complete gasket set.
So tonight I socketed the ECU and installed the chip. And now I am just waiting on the motor again.
I have never spent so much for something so small. lol
And installed.
Cant wait to start getting stuff back together.

Re: My Newest project....
Well. Picked up my block from the machine shop today. He said he had to do very little to no work on it, but did run the hone through it lightly to make sure.
So when I got it back I started moving everything to my house. I was using my buddy's garage. But it gets to dang dusty to assemble my motor there. So i brought it home to my little work space lol.
Its a tiny closet in the bathroom. lol. But it works good. Clean, nobody messing with it. and its got its own door. lol.
All I did tonight was put the crank in. Got everything assembled and it looks good. Spins real nice.
Hopefully will get a ring compressor tomorrow and get the pistons installed.

Re: My Newest project....
Well. Did some more work tonight. Got most of the short block assembled. Not gotta order head studs, timing belt kit, and water pump.
I also picked up a Greddy18G with the Mitsu housing on it. It was rebuilt so hopefully I wont have any issues with it.

Re: My Newest project....
Came home at lunch to some boxes sitting on the porch lol. Got my OFH, non cruise cable, engine bay wiring harness and injectors.
So I couldn't wait, I put on the OFH. Took like 2 min. lol. When I ordered it from JNZ I got it with new gasket and bolts, so it was easy.
Now o get back to work. Sadly. lol

Re: My Newest project....
Well...Spent most the day cleaning up the eclipse seems as how it was nice out. Got alot to do before dropping the motor in. But when I came home I had a package sitting outside.
It was my new to me turbo. lol. Greddy 18g with the Mistu housing with a fresh rebuild.
I gotta redo the wastegate bracket. I dont know why but someone welded some washers to it to space it out.
Now just gotta finish putting together a parts list for the rest of the fuel system upgrades.

Re: My Newest project....
Does anyone have any suggestions on a new fuel pump for my 2g. I was planning on getting the same old Walbro that I always have. But was wondering if there was anything out there that was better for about the same price.
I have been trying to search but i must not be using the right search terms cause I dont find much.

Re: My Newest project....
For that turbo, I'd just rock a 255hp as it's more than enough to support that (giving you room to grow), and is still one of the cheaper options out there for a brand new pump.

Re: My Newest project....
So tonight I went and picked up the head out of my car that way I could clean it up and see if it needed any work.
I was hoping to just have it cleaned up at the machine shop, but it dont look so good. The intake cam is rusted. The rockers dont look good. But I believe if I just soak them in something they will be ok.
However, when I flipped the head over the one cylinder dont look good. The rest are carbon'd up pretty good. But the one has some rust on it. I was hoping not to rebuild the head as I really didn't plan on it in the budget. But tell me what you guys think.
I am hoping I can save it without to much work. If I have to I will rebuild, or maybe find a good one for cheap. I dunno.

Re: My Newest project....
So I am trying to get a few things squared away with my fuel system. Running the Evo 560's will I need to get an AFPR? I know I will need to get one if I get the Walbro 255.
I was hoping that I could at least get the car running and driving for break in on the stock pump and regulator.
This head being in rough shape kinda threw me off. So if I can run stock pump and FPR it would give me the extra money to get either a new head or rebuild this one.

Re: My Newest project....
Youre going to be on pump gas right?

Re: My Newest project....
considering he's only running 560cc injectors I think it's safe to assume he will be running pump gas.
As for running the stock pump and fpr you should be able to get by for a little bit for break in. you can adjust for the 560's with link so things will run okay but I would keep boost low until you can get a walbro 255
