Timing Belt Help
I'm in need of a little help with my timing belt.
I took off the timing cover this weekend and went to the idiot card when pulling off the crank pulley. I removed the four pulleys and tried to remove the large bolt in the center. I used a wrench on the cam gear braced against the motor mount to stop the engine from turning (I know, idiotic).
Anyways, when I tried to break the bolt loose it clicked. I thought that was the wrench clicking against the motor mount, which it had done when I put tension on it. I turned it a little more and it clicked a couple more times. I realized at that time, that was the crank pulley skipping teeth on the timing belt. I removed the wrench on the cam gear and tried turning the motor over by hand. It turned a little bit before stopping. I didn't try to start it or anything, so nothing is bent as of yet. I removed the key and battery, so no one tries to start it.
What I need is a little help retiming the engine. The belt and whatnot are good, as it was done 5k ago. I just need the tensioner tool and to line everything up again and get it back in time. I've never done it before, I'm use to working on small block chevy stuff. The car is sitting in my shop, which has a full tool chest, air tools, lift, etc. It's our old race shop.
The bad part is that it is located in Prior Lake. Not many of you are south of the river. I would be willing to pay for gas and dinner for the night. Let me know if any of you would interested in helping me out and your schedule.
Thanks
James
