removing steering wheel

How do you remove the steering wheel? I got the 18mm bolt out. I think it's a 18mm. Now its stuck and does not budge.

Re: removing steering wheel

It is also pressed on, you will need a gear puller or steering wheel puller.

A puller would help but its not a press fit.

Re: removing steering wheel

I've never used a puller. Just wiggle the wheel back and forth once the center nut is off.

Re: removing steering wheel

Make sure you paint or mark the wheel and steering column so you can get it back on the same way.

Draw a straight line with a permanent marker across the head of the shaft bolt, line that up with a line on the wheel. You want the wheel to be straight when you're going straight unless it's not that way right now.

Re: removing steering wheel

I had one that I was able to wiggle off and another that I had to use a puller on. Maybe there was some corrosion on it?

Re: removing steering wheel

I've always used a puller when I took my wheel off. But, I had access to one. I now have an aftermarket wheel, so lining it up, was tricky. Put it on, take it off, etc etc.

I always leave a couple of threads holding the nut on so I don't smack myself in the face with the wheel when it pops off. Isn't very pleasant.

I have put on a momo wheel on both of my eclipse's and each time is was hard to pull off but ended up being able to do it. Just keep your wheels straight and that way when you put it on everything will line up correctly. Did you get your horn to work too? Just have yo make sure the little wire touches metal.

I finally got the steering wheel to come off. I wiggled it a lot.
