Re: The Black Beast

Yeah, the wheels are just some that I bought a few years back, and I'd like to get something else. No black wheels though.

Looks sick man!

I would suggest tinting the front corners along with the rear ones you plan on doing.

Re: The Black Beast

I already tinted the rear side markers. I might tint the fronts if I ever get around to it just to get rid of the white line around the edge where they used the clear sealant to glue the lense on.

Re: The Black Beast

Holy crap it's been a while since I've updated this... Anyways, the car now has new wheels and tires, 17x8 Mille Miglia wheels wrapped in 235/45 Sumitomo HTRZIII tires. Also installed an Innovate wideband and installed some black/dark grey seats from a '90 non turbo eclipse.

More importantly, as of today, the car is powered by an EvoIII 16g. Started the project yesterday but ran into a few problems and ran out of daylight so we had to stop for the night. Got it all put back together today and she runs great now. Just gotta plum in the boost controller since wastegate pressure at the intake manifold dropped by about 2 psi since this turbo is much smaller.

I haven't decided if I'm gonna get it tuned on E-85 this fall or just wait till spring, but eventually that will be happening as well. If I decide to wait till spring, I will probably just switch to the hta68 dsm and e-85 at the same time. The car is really dirty right now so pics will come after I get it washed.

Re: The Black Beast

If you're running an external gate on a 16g, that is awesome. I wonder if you can better hold boost up top because you don't have some weak internal flapper blowing open. That is when you get E85 and can push 30psi on this thing.

Yeah, I'm still running the Tial 38 off the o2 housing. We just took out the flapper, then welded up the hole in the side of the turbine housing so we'll see how well it can hold boost in the high RPMs before it just runs out of breath.

I also still need to do a boost leak test to make sure we didn't miss any pinhole spots when we welded up the new outlet pipe.

Not on E85, 95tsi runs 29 psi currently, and was up to 31psi on the dyno during tuning.

Yeah, there was a broken off stud in the outlet side of the turbine housing that was more difficult to get off than we thought it would be, so we had to drill it out then clean up the threads with a tap. Whoever clocked the compressor housing last time didn't grind off all of the little locater pin so we had to get that out the rest of the way. Also there were some messed up threads in the outlet of the compressor housing, so we had to clean out those threads. Also, the oil feed fitting wouldn't get tight, so we had to use some red loctite to get that to tighten up. Then just as we were finishing it up on Thursday night, the compressor housing popped off because we didn't have it on the backing plate far enough to get the snap ring in the groove all the way.

So it was way more of a pain in the ass than I thought it would be, but it went back together pretty easily on Friday morning. Ken had it all back together by the time I got there at 1, and nothing leaks so I'm happy. Now I just gotta get that coupler so I can put my intake and filter back on.

40 psi on a 16g? Am I reading that right? I'm sorry I guess I've just never heard of a 16g that can actually run that much boost.
