Re: Looking at bikes.
Damn Brandon, that sucks. I've wanted a bike for some time, but I've always put off really learning to ride for my sake and for Jana's stress.

Re: Looking at bikes.
A friend of mine in his upper 40's who has ridden for the last 20+ years, and who is an active advocate for safe riding etc.. Was killed last November one Sunday morning around 11am. He was doing 30mph in a 30mph zone, when a lady coming head on in a SUV didn't see him, and pulled right in front of him. She was taking a left into a driveway or something, he had no chance at missing her, and he died on the spot. He was a very experienced rider with a lot of track experience both on bikes, and in his NSX and two 911's. It doesn't matter who you are, THEY JUST DON'T SEE YOU.

Re: Looking at bikes.
If you are worried about people not seeing you, there are headlight modulators that you can buy. They make the headlight blink so it really draws your attention.
Sorry Brandon, that sucks.
That 750 does look like the best deal. The YZF 600 is not an R6 (it is the older version) and the Z1000 I would stay away from. The 600 for $5500 isn't bad either, but the 750 is pretty much the same price.

Re: Looking at bikes.
FYI the 750 will wheelie all day long in 3rd gear. Normal riding I get about 140-150 miles on a tank of gas, so between 35-40 mpgish.
I say go for the 750 as well. It could get away from ya, as could a 600 or anything else with out some seat time, but as long as you know that why buy something you are going to want to upgrade later.
Good luck and wear the gear.

Re: Looking at bikes.
Ya i want to post my R6 for sale but with the $2200 damage(had an estimate done about 3 weeks ago) from Josh. I would never get what I want. I really want an R1.
Jet can you chime in about racing? I've heard rumors that they only allow bikes under 750cc to race at like DCTC and BIR? for the fun days? is that true? what are the general rules?

Re: Looking at bikes.
I was looking at the new Suzuki V-Strom 650's and they are only about $5900 brand new. Not a bad bike to run around on.

Re: Looking at bikes.
Someone should talk to someone about a group buy! Or we should all go in together on some 'Buddy Plan's'.
I've seen lots of cheap Buddy Plans now-a-days. But i'm sure they're cheaper to buy in the fall/winter around here.

Re: Looking at bikes.
The 600 for 5500 has a few mods, but I do not know if its worth the extra cash, there is a 600 for 4500cash/ obo, still looking.

Re: Looking at bikes.
Racing with the CRA is much different than most people think. I would get a dedicated race bike. There can't be any lights or anything on the bike. You can race the big bikes on the track, but noobs have to start out at 600cc or smaller. I would say find a SV650 and race in the lightweight class. I knew a few guys that raced their street bike for a bit, but soon changed their minds.

Re: Looking at bikes.
I was just hoping to find a place I could learn to really ride my bike vs on the streets. Kind of like how I took a ton of road racing / scca class when I first got into cars.
would like to do the same with the bike I was really hoping dctc had events but again I only have my permit for now. would they even let me in?
I'm thinking about replacing my scratched up muffler with something else. I've seen replacement slip ons for around $350 I like the micron Black/fade to blue.
either that or a carbonfiber one, but that would be so I my passangers don't have to worry about getting burnt.. but the more I look at the blue/black one the more I like it.

Re: Looking at bikes.
When I first started reading this thread, I was kindof excited about motorcycles, and now toward the end, I have decided that if I ever got one, it would be a 600 with a huge caution flag attatched to the back so people could see me better.
I think I will get a crx hf and lighten it for gas milage.

Re: Looking at bikes.
Holy Christ. How much lighter could you make the HF? I mean they even came with aluminum drums in the rear for weight savings. Even the carbed versions from 85-87 were getting 50+mpg long before the Metro and others came out.
Go for an Si and lighten that. You'll get the same mileage and go a little faster.

Re: Looking at bikes.
I used to own a Mystic Black 2003 Suzuki Katana 600. I put a Yoshimura full stainless 4 into 1 header and pipe, K & N filter kit, re-jet kit and a 5 deg timing advancer. It was much faster than the 750cc version of the same bike and was extremely fun and comfortable to ride.
But I have BAS (Bike Aquisition Syndrome) badly myself right now.
I am looking at getting one of these in the sometime near/distant future.

Damn man, you really know how to hurt a fella.
I like the black one too, but I don't know if I would take it over the chrome.
