Re: Window Tint

I'm debating on doing it myself my my '99 GSX. The back window will be a bitch. Check out www.tintdude.com Great site with how-tos. I'm merely wanting to do it myself because if i'm successful i can startup a weekend job doing other cars. You need good tint though. Llumar is one of the best of most commonly used at slick-up shops.

Re: Window Tint

I tried it myself, didnt work very well at all on the curved rear windows. I would just take it somewhere. Ziebarts does good work.

Re: Window Tint

You must use a heat gun and no not a hair dryer. There are 2 methods, wet shrinking and dry shrinking. You have to shrink the little fingers that appear from going around curved glass. The entire how-to is on that site.

Ziebart in Fridley or Maplewood.Ask for the manager, tell them Metzger sent you and they'll give you a good deal or just let me know and I'll set it up.If you want to do it yourself, I can get professional films too.

Re: Window Tint

Want to get my windows tinted. Anybody know of a decent place around Woodbury/Cottage Grove area that doe good work? I took my 2G to this guy called the (Tint Man) up in Roseville and he did a pretty good job. I will go back to him if there isn't anything closer.

Also does Ziebarts and Abra do it darker upon request? I know 50% is legal but thats hardly worth it since its not even that dark. I want to do 35% all the way around.

I haven't heard of anyone getting denied farker than legal tint. ?If they give you any shit say its a show car for off road use only or something.

I know that street scenes will go darker than 50% because someone on MNSC was flossing their pics of 30% tint on a civic.

The place is called Street Scene there price is pretty decent and there tint work is nice because they have a machine that cuts out the tint for them. I got front tints 35% done on my SUV for 40 bucks and other places wanted 150 to just do my front. Plus they do a one piece rear window. If you are thinking about doing it yourself I wish you the best of luck. I tinted before and it sucked because the film you buy at the store sucks. Not only that but it turns purple after a year or so. Save yourself the headache. Make sure to check with the place you do the tint that they can do it as dark as you want. I know a couple of shops that will only tint 50% because of MN rules.

They will go 5% and double 5%( which is 5% over 5%).

Street Scene has a shop on WhiteBear in Maplewood next to the Rainbow shopping center on White Bear Ave.

I know what place you are talking about but I don't know the name either. I used to live in Fridley so I drove by there all the time.

Re: Window Tint

I used to have an extended cab s-10 and I had the windows tinted at ziebart in fridley. they did a pretty good job. 5% on all the back windows and 30% on the door windows. all they had me do is sign a waiver saying that I knew the timt on my windows was illegal and that they couldn't be held liable

Re: Window Tint

I got pulled over last Wednesday in Red Wing for my 20%. Second time in about 7 months I've been pulled over for it, but no tickets yet. I think my AZ drivers license helps me out because they think I got it tinted there and moved here!

Re: Window Tint

I was also planning on tinting my windows this Spring/Summer. I hate how leather seats heat up so quick and cool down so slow. How much does it usually cost for a full tint job (door windows, back windows, and rear window)? Forty bucks for the front sounds like a good deal to me, compared to $150.
