A couple days ago on my way to work I got off the freeway and tried to downshift and I couldn't put it in any gear. I had to pull over and put it in first. It keeps doing this off and on and sometimes when I stop I can't even get it into 1st, I have to shut the car off and start it with it in first. Also, sometimes when I put the clutch in it seems to not recognize that it's in and it sounds like something is spinning and not catching. I tried putting in a slave cylinder today and that didn't help. Anyone have any ideas?

Mine did that when the springs came out of the clutch disk.

My guess exactly.
