DSMINMN's '91 Talon TSi AWD
Well, this is how the story goes. I thought my '99 GS-T had a bad head gasket and had planned on building the engine. But after looking into it deeper, it turned out to be just a radiator cap... lol
I then turned my attention away from both my GS-T and my Talon. The reason for this would be because my dad owns both cars. He told me I wasn't touching the engines of those cars. His reasoning for saying is a little confusing, CONSIDERING he knows I am into performance. To each their own I guess. He's into ricing cars out and making them LOOK cool, so I kind of took that as a hint.
I also have grown old to the comments about how I need to get my own car and stop driving my "parent's cars". Those numerous comments were another contributing factor.
So I jumped onto Craigslist and found the car I will be showing you here in a bit. It didn't take very long to find it either. I talked to the guy and within a week I was at his place picking the car up with a couple friends.
It needs body work, interior work...it’s a restoration pretty much. I, however, am going to be building the engine far past what one would consider factory specs.
Here she is, my new project;
1991 Eagle Talon TSi AWD
As you can already tell, it needs A LOT of work. I mean, look at this picture of the inside of the car.
I think it’s quite evident this will be a long term project. The first thing on the list to do is to finish seam welding the engine bay, prime it and paint it.
It was a little disappointing that I received a 1g 7-bolt short block from the owner to use. I didn't notice it until yesterday it wasn't a 6-bolt like I had thought it would be. I guess if I would have listened when he said he put a junkyard engine in it awhile back that lasted him the whole time he used the car.
Anyway, that’s my new project. As soon as I can get it to my dad's shop where all the tools are, I will have some updates. Thanks for looking!

Yeah its going to be a project alright, lol. Wishlist? Let me see....
2.3L stroker; .040” over Wiseco pistons, Eagle 100mm crank and rods, Balance shaft removal, ACL bearings, ARP hardware, COP setup possibly, Magnus Street Intake Manifold, or JMFab, Some kind of larger diameter throttle body, all Emissions deleted of course,
Kelford 272 cams, maybe BC 280’s,
Holset HX35, Borg Warner of some sort from a Duramax diesel, and if anything a 6262 from Precision,
Forced Performance Aluminum Intake Pipe or some type of turbo inlet tube, VRSF intercooler,
DSMlink V3, Speed density, AEM Wideband UEGO, Hallman Pro RX Boost Controller or whatever ‘controller I can get, TiAL Wastegate and BOV (Unsure of wastegate size),
FPR, DW300lph fuel pump, MAYBE ditch that idea and get a fuel cell… I’m sure there are other things too. This is just off of the top of my head.

What are you trying to say? The stroker kit can be had after five months of saving $200 from each of my pay checks (which come every two weeks). A Holset can also be had for close to $400. That is one and a quater of a paycheck. The Borg Warner I might be buying is $300 from a friend of mine. That is just under a single paycheck. Brand new, never used. He scored it by only God knows how.
It really just comes down to how you save and budget your money. You also have to take into account the body work is going to be next to free since my dad has a bodyshop. Everything I need it there for the use. But if you are wanting say I can't do it that's fine too. I knew there were going to be people to say that from the start.

LOL, I don't think he was saying that at all. I thought the same thing, all that stuff is pretty spendy new, and you hadn't mentioned the deals you were getting on some of it it all. I say start simple and work your way up. Doing a ton of work at the same time can be very stressful, ask Chim55117 or myself. haha

Congrats on getting a fixer upper! If you stick to your plan you'll have a fun car and learn a lot as time goes on.
Two quick questions: What do you want to do with the car? Have any goals?
If you just want to cruise around and not not make any crazy power it seems like a stroker and a lot of that stuff is over the top. I'm not trying to be a dick, just trying to save you some money and get it on the road quicker.

I want to be able to take it to the strip, such as BIR and put it to use. Sure I might drive it during summer every once in awhile, but probably not all that much consdiering how much I plan on putting into it.
As far as goals go, I just want to make a nice ammount of power. IDK if 650-700HP is asking WAY too much with the type of setup I was looking at getting.
And I can understand that.

Re: DSMINMN's '91 Talon TSi AWD
Mini-update.
I went through the car, and layed everything out that I could pick-up/move by myself. I noticed I am missing a few things such as; a turbo, turbomanifold, intake manifold, driveshaft and such. The turbo I was aware I wasn't going to have and ultimately it doesn't really matter. I hadn't PLANNED on using most of the stock parts anyway, but it would have been nice to make some money off of what I don't use.
Otherwise I completely sorted everything in the car and put a type of "order" to the randomness that was the parts inside of my car. Hahaha.

Re: DSMINMN's '91 Talon TSi AWD
Almost forgot. As for color ideas, this is what I have come up with:
I am sticking with the 1ga body style, so this is just a color idea. These might give everyone a better idea being it is a 1ga Talon.
I have also been contemplaiting doing this with the center section of the tail lights.
I may even tint the tail lights as well. I am still looking for picture to help me fully visualize what it would look like on a blue car.
Finally, these are the wheels I have decided on.
Once again, I am sticking with the 1ga body style. Tirerack just does not seem to have anything other than a 1gb. It is close enough for you to get the feel though.
Thanks for looking.
