Re: Oil-less turbochargers

Im thinking it would have to be a fluid based grease? Not like wheel bearing grease or nothing even though that kind of grease seems to get the job done?

Re: Oil-less turbochargers

These have been used on snowmobile turbo kits to save the weight and hassle of an oiling system.

Re: Oil-less turbochargers

I thought that the snowmobile turbo's like the aerocharger's were just a self contained oiling system. Rather then an oilless turbo? I guess I havnt looked at many other then what the skidoo guys r using. I wish I could run e85 in my sled without blowing the crank seals out

Re: Oil-less turbochargers

From what it sounded like to me in this article, it is just a self contained/sealed oiling system. It's just not having to be fed oil like we are used to.

Is that what everyone else is getting out of it?

Re: Oil-less turbochargers

there is no grease, it rides on ceramic ball bearings. there is also no thrust plate.

Re: Oil-less turbochargers

eh, sounds nice (but so does snake oil)

I'd be more confident in it if it was an OEM using it.

Re: Oil-less turbochargers

I like how they port their compressor housings. The three wide ports sure do have a pretty mouth.

Re: Oil-less turbochargers

It is nice to see an advance in turbo technology. Super charger land has had self contained oiling systems for a long time now, and self contained oil systems on small turbo setups for the last few years.

I would expect little to no gains on spool up, but between shifts this would help the inertia of the compressor/exhaust wheel.
