PLEASE READ Re: VANDALISM on Spring Cruise
Guys, I cannot express how awful I feel about the vandalism that occurred on our spring cruise. For those that do not know, while the cars were parked overnight on the top level of a parking garage in La Crosse, someone decided it would be great to do some damage.
The more I talk to people about it, the more I realize that it could have happened to any one of our cars, and we're actually lucky it did not happen to all of them. Both of the car owners have a $500 insurance deductible, like probably most others here. I thought it would be really cool if we, as a larger group of people, could help these two guys out and help them restore the luster to their stallions. I don't think it's too much to ask, but I'd like to try and raise $200 for this--that's $100 per car, for the owner to get things back in order.
If you feel like donating $10 or $20, I'm sure it would mean the world to these guys. Please send donations paypal to chris@snowsecurity.com with 'vandalism' in the subject and I will put your name on the list when we give it to these guys at the dyno day in 3 weeks. If you want to donate at the dyno day, that would be awesome too, but I'd like to have all of the money ahead of time for this, so please donate before May 1 if you can!
Thanks guys,
-scheides
Here are some pics of the damage:
Rose0529's car. For those that don't know, the evo wing is made of carbon fiber, not chincy plastic. I have seen video of people jumping up and down on them w/o breaking. Whoever did this was *really* trying.
Keep in mind its not just the horizontal piece that is damaged. The uprights and trunklid are also damaged from the stress of someone doing this to carbon fiber:
Tried to get the wiper off, no luck though:

311 Evo's car. His wing was cranked on pretty good, but they did not break it off. It felt quite wobbly. They got the rear wiper off though.
Not the way we wanted to start out a Sunday morning:
Again, if you can donate anything towards the cause, it would mean a mountain to these guys.

I really feel bad for you guys. 311, it was really cool meeting you, and you all seemed like really nice people. I'll start it off at 15.

Re: PLEASE READ Re: VANDALISM on Spring Cruise
Seeing those cars like that really made my stomach go into knots
From what I hear this is all too common in the Downtown LaCrosse parking ramps; I really wish I would have known about that before picking the hotel.
It also really pisses me off how the hotel reacted when i informed them of the damage done. Not only did the hotel manager immediately become very defensive she also never once said "thats too bad" or "sorry to hear about that", only a "Its not our responsibility, nothing I can do about it" in a VERY nasty tone. Keep in mind I was not asking for the damaged to be paid for, I was asking her to knock the $3 parking fee off of everyone's room charge. I have a call in to the regional manager and if that solves nothing, which i am sure it won't, I encourage everyone to call their credit card company and dispute the $3 charge. $3 isn't much, but its the principle of the matter and how little regard for us and our property the hotel had.
The cop also told me that the city has been trying to get Holiday Inn to split the cost of security cameras for the ramp but the hotel continually refuses even though this is a frequent occurance.

Re: PLEASE READ Re: VANDALISM on Spring Cruise
It was parked in the public underground lot while we went to texas for a weekend. Either it was really crappy random vandalism or someone that doesn't like her did it. There was a person suspected of it, but he denies it.. and we have no proof. 1k deductible ftl.
Oh and the 3 dollar parking fee, Im going to call about that tonight, because when we checked in I swore I heard it was complimentary parking. If I knew it wasnt free, I would have just parked on the higher levels.

Re: PLEASE READ Re: VANDALISM on Spring Cruise
We suspect they were targeting a black Evo for some reason. My car, which was between the two cars damaged, was untouched, and Scheides' Evo was also untouched but since its wingless it blended in with the group of cars it was parked near.

Re: PLEASE READ Re: VANDALISM on Spring Cruise
I just got off the phone with my credit card company and they refunded my $3 back and will be going after Holiday Inn for it! If everyone else does this this will create a huge headache for them with all the paperwork and will maybe finally convince them to buy some security cameras.

Re: PLEASE READ Re: VANDALISM on Spring Cruise
I'd gladly give some money to the cause but me having to buy a new crank and bearings kinda hurts my funds.

Re: PLEASE READ Re: VANDALISM on Spring Cruise
I don't have paypal, but when I come to the dyno day I will bring some cash for each person.
Something tells me this wasn't a random vandalizm, and that rose and 311 were targeted for whatever reason.

Re: PLEASE READ Re: VANDALISM on Spring Cruise
Wow, really sorry to hear about this. I can't believe they wouldn't put in security cameras. Definitely contact a regional or higher up for Holiday Inn. They take complaints very serious and usually give the GM's 72 hours to make things right once they receive the complaint or corporate does it for them.
As for deductibles; 1K is tough. You can ask for split deductible for comp/collision. For example $250 comp and $1000 collision. This usually balances out the cost for the lower comp and the less likely collision at 1K if you budget or keep a credit card available usually is a pretty good way to cover things.
Good luck with all this. It just makes me sick to see.

My money is on it's way shortly. It really sucks that this happened, and I'm glad nobody else's car was damaged.
