Exclamation 95 talon awd

Ok so here is the thing. My gf has a 95 tsi that i was going to buy for parts cuz it was only going to cost me $200 for the whole car. The car only needed a turbo so i bought and put one in it to get it running. The car had a new engine put into it and was running well with the new turbo. The only downfall is that its an auto . O well i gave it to her anyways.

So the problem is that the power steering belt squeals all the time. It has new belts that were just put on not too long ago. So now im in the situation with her, but i have my own things to do with my 98 GSX!

Is there any chance the belt could be too tight?? When i tighten it up it goes away for a while but then it comes back so, If anyone has any idea just let me know.

Did you check to make sure it was full of ps fluid?? If its low it will squeal.
p.s. nothing wrong with an auto

That's what you get for getting another dsm! haha jk, But yeah, check the fluid level, and also the tension of the belt.

Re: 95 talon awd

Ok here's the thing... I checked the fluid levels on the ps and its full!! i checked the belt and it has a little more then just "some play". So the next problem is that whenever you tighten the belt it seems to find away to loosen itself again.. its already been tightened like three or four times and the prob still presists!!!!

I would like to hear some more input on the subject.......

What kind of belt is it? Do you put a pry bar behind the PS pump when you tighten it?

Re: 95 talon awd

On my car i found it easier with two people, one to pull on the pry bar and feel the tension on the belt, and the other to tighten the bolt when the first person tells them too. Did mine once that way, didn't have to do it again. And tighten it good and hard.

Re: 95 talon awd

Its probably just loosening up. And just an FYI: if your power steering pump was low it wouldnt squeal, it would wine.

Re: 95 talon awd

Sounds like the belt is glazed, spec is I think 1/2" deflection.
Replace the belt or try using a wax pen under the belt while the engine is running to deglaze it .

Re: 95 talon awd

Well the belt is brand new and im sure that it just stretched a bit, so im going to try tightening it one more time and see what happens with that....

what about the adjuster bolt???? couldn't I just use that to tighten it?

Re: 95 talon awd

There is no adjuster bolt. The ps belt tensions by prying the pump and tightening the mounting bolts.

The adjuster is on the alternator for the belt, and I tightened the ps belt.. STILL SQUEALING!! Im thinking that it could be the alternator belt instead.. Anyone else have the same problem??

Re: 95 talon awd

I would make sure both are tight.

Try this old mechanic trick. Get some belt dressing and put a little on one belt and see if it goes away. If not try the other belt.

In my experience if a belt was making noise, it was always the alternator belt. Could be a sign of a failing alternator also. Had that happen also.
