Computer wiz needed!
I need to figure out my "windows key" so I can use my buddies Windows xp pro disc to reformat. I was told I don't need to have a disc of my own, I just need to somehow figure out what my windows key is and use any win xp pro disc to reformat.
I have no idea how to figure out what my windows key is. I'm not sure if it's a legit copy of windows xp operating system or not. Can anyone help me out?
I just want to clear off the hard drive and start from scratch. So any help would be appreciated

Re: Computer wiz needed!
It is going to be on a small sticker on your computer. It is probably about an inch tall and 2 1/2" long. It will be white and probably blue and green. There are a few different color combo's though. If it was a preinstalled version you are screwed, you cannot reinstall it with that key. I already went through that and it is BS. Microsoft tells you to call the company that made the computer and they tell you it is out of warranty and you have to buy a new version. I even had the key on the computer and THEIR backup discs!

Re: Computer wiz needed!
I had someone on this site build it for me. I remember registering it, i just have no idea what I did with the key. I don't think there are any stickers on the computer since it was home made.
A guy I used to game with told me you can find a program that will "decode" your key or something. You download the program, run it, and it pops up telling you what your key is. That's kind of what I'm looking for. I just don't know where to find it

download, run......goodluck.
Get a Macintosh, in addition to the better OS, you can also run dual-boot into windowsXP for those times you "need" a windows program
and they benchmark windowsXP faster then most comparable windowsXP machines

Re: Computer wiz needed!
Mac stuff FTL. I have never seen another brand have their shit break so fast/often. I dont think I know anyone that hasnt had atleast one iPod shit the bed of them and my old roommate had to have his brand new Mac book taken into the apple store 4 times in the 2.5 months I knew him. Dont get me wrong, I like them but damn, seems they break more often than our DSM's do.

I second that. But I love my ipod. I like Macs for multimedia stuff. Windows for the all around shit. But then again its more of to his or her own. Great you found out your key. I was about to say you are screwed.....

Well I didn't FIND my key. I downloaded that program that "hacks" your computer and tells you what your windows key is along with your Microsoft word key.
I still need a XP pro disc to reformat. Those fuckers cost alot so I will try and hunt one down to barrow :P

Macs are different therefore they suck. lol.
Anyone notice how macs have 1% of the market but 95% of the advirtisements when it comes to the PCs. I hate their fucking ads. Microsuck doesnt have barely any ads and they do just fine.

Do you just need to do a reformat? If so, (assuming you have a floppy drive) create a dos boot disk, boot to the disk, type Format c: and say goodnight

Re: Computer wiz needed!
I thought I gave you a XP disk when I built that thing? To get a new key all you have to do is call microsoft and tell them you reformatted your machine and lost the key.
