Alright, i am thinking of getting a car trailer and am looking for your guys's opinions...

any place i asked around minimum they want is $45 to $60 hookup charge and $2 to $3 / mile

Some of them start milage from the shop until they get back into the shop. And some only the towing part plus trip back to the shop.

the $3/mile one is the actual towing milate... the cheaper one's are from shop.etc etc..

A few also had a minimum of 10 miles charge due to some people having only 2 miles to tow.. etc etc.

So what do you guys think is most reasonable, but also worth it for a towing company and yourself..

Ie $30 hookup plus $2/mile with 10 mile minimum? etc etc...

And would you rather go thru a company like that or if a member had his own trailer / truck to do it with...

Obviously I'd rather go through a friend, provided they new what they were doing. Remember, I gladly pm'd you to tow me over a pro-towing company. Chris did the same I believe.

How far are you towing and what shape is the car in? I just rented a dolly to tow back a spec v we ditched in Albert Lee. It was ~50 for dolly and insurance plus gas for the blazer. If it AWD you can get a full trailer for 10 bucks more.

I say go for it but my guess is that you may have to drop upwards of $2000 on a trailer. Even if you do spend that much or more I would say that you could have it paid for within a year. The reason I say $2000 is by the time you get a decent tandem with brakes, ramps, and possibly even a winch, things really start to add up. Do you have a gooseneck plate in your truck? If so it may be worth checking into a a small gooseneck flatbed. I would also watch Ebay. There is a company out of Missouri that builds what look to be very decent trailers and does heavy marketing of them on Ebay. Here is the website to their Ebay store: Looky. Maybe for some further research it would be worth giving Twin Cities Featherlite a call sometime also.

You can find a nice 18ft flatbed tandem axle trailer brand new with ramps for around $1200-1400 depending on options.
