Re: Roll cage feedback
The 6 or 5 point roll bar(6 point is with and a 5 point is with out a passanger side door bar) is needed at 11.49 ET and up to 135mph in the 1/4 mile. The 8 point roll cage with or with out a passanger side door bar is good to a 8.50 or 150mph.
the 6 point roll bar can be either mild steel or chrome moly tube. mild steel would need to be 1 3/4" .120" wall DOM tube (drawn on mandrel). Mild steel joints can be MIG or TIG welded, with ER70s filler rod/wire. Chrome moly would need to be a 1 3/4 OD and .083" wall DOM tube. Any joint with Chrome Moly in it needs to be TIG welded using ER70s filler rod.
The 8 point cage with or with out a passanger door bar needs to be made from 1 5/8" OD .120" wall DOM mild steel, again MIG or TIG welded. Or Chrome Moly of 1 5/8" OD and .083" wall DOM can be used, again any joint with chrome moly needs to be TIG welded.
I recommend with stock style seats for the car to have the door bar on the driver and/or passanger side removable or a swing out. But if you have a high sided race seat the door bar can make it easier to get in/out of the car if you know what to do.
I think most people that complain about or hate a roll bar/caged vehical is riding in a car where it is either not installed properly or the cage is not design around you, the driver. Which is the hole point of a roll bar/cage, to save the driver.
