Yeah, it must be burned into your memory by now! Maybe this will be a little incentive for you and you will get that thing done this winter/spring. Show him some progress pictures and make him jealous, Vicious.

HKS 272/272 cams have been degreed in and I should be putting this bad boy between the frame rails Saturday. For anybody wondering about how far off the 2.0L cam gears are compared to the 2.4L gears, it is about 4.5-5 deg. I dialed the cams in and then made a new alignment mark on each gear with an engraver at the adjustable timing marks. I also took a straight edge across both gears and engraved new alignment marks where the gears come close together for future timing belt replacements.

Looks great Mike! Are you going create some form of timing cover for it or run it open? Just curious.

I actually plan on running the timing belt & gears fully covered. With my luck something would eventually fall down in there if I left it open. Might remove the top section for car shows, maybe. I like the black 2g covers better than the new grey 1g covers I bought, but I was told the 2g covers wouldn't fit the 1g design.

I'm going to be using my VPE GT3056W (TO4E/.56trim/GT30/7cm) turbo. Should get full boost with it by 2600rpm on this engine. If I decide I need a bigger turbo I will probably get the FP3065.

Hmmm, I was pretty sure that you couldn't use either since the block moves the head up 6MM, If they were used they would probably at least need to be extended a bit I think. That was why I was asking, and because I didn't see any on there at the moment. I knew you were smart enough to run something rather than going without.

I think it will be ok. The seperation point of the top and bottom half meet at the deck level. I'll let you know tonight after I try to put them on.

The 1g cover works great, all I did was to enlarge the holes on the upper plates that attach to each side of the head so they would drop down a little bit and I was able to get all the bolts in.
Here's where the difference really shows with just a little gap.
Now that's the good news, the bad news is that shortly after taking the pics, I tried to improve the way it lined up on the p/s pump side of the head and cracked the lower cover. :uh: So tomorrow I'm going to try the 2g covers, should work just as well since everything seems to line up great. I'll let you know how it works out.

I would run some crappy tires if I were you Vicious. That center diff is really going to be put to the test with all that torque you will be making! Especially if spool up is anywhere close to what you think it will be. If you don't launch it too hard you might get by with the stocker, but I would definately have that on the to-do list.

Nice work. It looks like leaving the top cover off will fool 99% of the fools out there. Guess I need to start shopping for a block and build me one of them bad boys.
