Re: Perkul8r's 2nd DSM

Did a little bit of work today. Started cleaning some stuff out. Mainly misc wiring. Ended up finding the MAFT that was wired in. It was just hanging out in the engine bay. I think I am gonna make a new harness for it and run it inside to the glove box at least. Also started pulling out the ac components. A couple of the metal lines were messed up so its just gonna come out.

I also gotta figure out what to do with 1/2 tank of E85. I highly doubt i will run E85 due to the fact that if i ever go back west to Montana to visit family i wont be able to fill up. E85 is very limited if not no existent in my hometown.

I think dsm link allows for alt maps does it not? That way you can have a 93oct tune and an e85 tune.

Re: Perkul8r's 2nd DSM

I was talking about that with my buddy and if that works that will probably be the way to go for me. I would only be able to run 91 for when i went back home. But we have at least one E85 station here in town.

Re: Perkul8r's 2nd DSM

So finally getting around to getting somewhere on this car. Been cold as hell here, and having no garage now sucks. But I was able to pick up a 90 GST that i will use for the motor and misc interior parts and some little body things. Rest will be parted out. That car should be here on Wed.

I am starting to look for a head and some other little parts. Mainly 91-94 throttle body, Cas, and coil pack. I think thats all i need to get the 90 motor running in my car.

The only other thing i was unsure of is the MAF on the 90. Would it work in my 91? Or should i just upgrade to the 2g one instead.

Re: Perkul8r's 2nd DSM

So, my GST arrived today and i was rather surprised. In the pictures i was sent the car did not look that good. Which was fine. I was just gonna use it as parts anyway. But when it got here, its actually in really good shape. No rust on the car, and interior is in really good shape. Like alot better than my talon. The guy also gave me alot of interior pieces from his rolled Eclipse. He gave me pretty much everything except the front seats.

I will try to get some pics tomorrow before i leave town. But its kinda crowded in the garage again. lol

Re: Perkul8r's 2nd DSM

Took a couple pics with my phone today before leaving town. Sorry if the pics suck. I will get some better ones later when i get the garage cleaned out.

Hard to tell by the pics but there is alot of extra stuff in there. Gonna start looking for a bigger storage shed that way i can put the Talon in there for now and get the Eclipse running.

I also bought a head from Chim to replace the one on the Eclipse. I am hoping to find a cheap way to heat the garage a little otherwise i will wait to start working on it.

Re: Perkul8r's 2nd DSM

Ya, i totally understand. Right now it was more of a matter of getting the stuff in there. I had to take an hour from work just to come help unload the car and put the stuff in the garage.

But i did get a call back from a storage place saying that i was able to finally get into a bigger unit. Right now i have like a 7x9 storage unit. And its on a 2nd floor. The new one i am gonna get into is a 12x20. And has outside access. So i will be able to move everything thats not needed over there.

Re: Perkul8r's 2nd DSM

So i am finally getting somewhere on this project now. I ended up getting a head from Chim to replace the one thats on the car. Thanks again for that. It was great to find one quick. Than i picked up my gasket set, timing belt set, and a couple other small things. I still need to grab a water pump. Figured i might as well change it while i am in there.

Still looking for a small heater to run in the garage. As i am pretty sure I shouldn't be installing gaskets while there is still frost on the motor. But my buddy is moving into a place with a heated garage and i may be able to take the car there to do the assembly.

Re: Perkul8r's 2nd DSM

Well, got some more work done tonight seems as how it wasn't that cold out. According to my phone it was about 20* out while i was working. lol.

This is where i stopped last night.

And this is where i stopped tonight. I only have to get the water pump pulley, crank pulley, timing cover off, and i can almost pull the head.

I am not sure if i will get to work on it tomorrow or not. Its supposed to get cold. So we'll see. I wanna get this apart and cleaned up that way i can haul it over to my friends new place to just put the head on.

Sorry if the pics kinda suck. I took them with my phone.

Re: Perkul8r's 2nd DSM

Well, got a little bit further on the car tonight. I would have gotten the head off but i forgot my giant allen socket at work. Hopefully tomorrow i will get it off, cleaned up, and maybe do some assembly. I would really like to get it back together while i have a small heater in the garage.

Re: Perkul8r's 2nd DSM

Well, got the head off tonight and found something I really didn't want to see.

Also found that the intake has a nice big ass mark in it. And a couple broken rocker arms.

Kinda upset. Not to much about the cam and rocker arms, thats an easily fixed problem. More so on the motor. Wasn't looking forward to going this far into it at this time.

Re: Perkul8r's 2nd DSM

So now i am looking at either buying short block, or having one rebuilt. Nobody around here is willing to work on a 4g63t. So i was wondering if anyone can recommend a place in MN that could do the job. Any help would be great.
