Re: How much is 40k a year?
The only suggestion I'll give it don't let $$$ control what you decide to do and don't worry about $40k a year not being enough. I hit that mark about 6 years ago working in the tellecomminications area and I hated it. I could of stuck with it and probably be making an easy figures by now and could have picked where I wanted to work in the US. I'm really happy I didn't go that route, worked a few odd jobs, started a business, and then found what I wanted and went back to school. Now I'm back where I want to be financialy and doing something that makes the day fly and that I actually enjoy.
Do what you want to do and if it pays good it's a bonus. You're still young enough to give a few things a shot yet and see where they lead. Hell, if radiology sounds cool, roll with it, see what happens. if it doesn't make you happy, keep it as a fall back and use things you've learned through that path to rock the next venture.
Man, I sound like a soap opera. lol
I agree that money makes people happy, it provides comfort, and there is nothing wrong with wanting to have it, it's yeilding the control it can have that's key.

Re: How much is 40k a year?
Go to a job fair. They have them every once in a while. I'd say google minneapolis job fair or something. I will be attending one this spring cause I need a jerb for when I get out of college.
Good luck. And you don't need a $200k house either, a 150k rambler with a 2 car garage would be just fine to start!

Re: How much is 40k a year?
Yeah, that Wells Fargo job is not a starting job. One of my ex's worked at WF in the main office. She started in the low 30's with a nice private college degree and high GPA. After 3 years she was finally breaking $40k with 2 promotions.
If the medical field interests you, then I say go for radiology. The medical field is one that will not go away. People will never stop getting sick, no matter what happens to the economy. With the economy in the state it is, medical is a great way to go. You have to like it though, don't do something for the $$$, you will not like it and likely change careers down the road and lose many years of experience.

Re: How much is 40k a year?
BTW, what is the actual title? Because by saying Radiology, I think Radiologist MD. That requires undergrad/med school/then specialty(12+ years schooling) and a huge paycheck.
So this position is Radiology technician?

Re: How much is 40k a year?
40K a year considering todays economy isn't bad (depending on where you live). There just isn't the jobs out there these days as there were say 6 years ago.
Personally I don't have a college degree; but I got into the Casino buisness about 12 years ago and just stuck with it. I really liked the job and basically got taught advanced electronics by all my peers. I just got promoted recently and now make in the mid 60s.
If you have a good work ethic and are for the most part a bright person and get on with a good company, you can move right to the top. You can't base everything on a starting wage, you have to look at the potential. There are a lot of companies like Jet mentioned that will start you off at a ok wage but then thats where you stay.

Re: How much is 40k a year?
My mom is a radiological technologist. She runs MRI's. She loves it. I think it's a great field to get into. For the most part, it doesn't seem that stressful except for you occasional bitchy patients. But other than that, seems like a nice job, nice work environment, and decent pay. She is always putting in some overtime as well to make a few extra bucks.

Re: How much is 40k a year?
The position i would be certified for would be radiology technician, certified by a national org. ARRT that is the only way to get a job.
Looks like i need to just keep on with my radiology and go shadow someone a couple of days and talk to more people in that field.
You guys have been really helpful, i do appreciate it.

Re: How much is 40k a year?
As far as the computer science thing, at Wells Fargo they usually start you off at high 40s with a 4 year degree. After 5 years or so you'd be in the 60s easily.
Everything has different grades though, a computer operations analyst is less pay than a technical apps developer, which would be less than a database analyst, etc. Just depends on the type of computer science you want to get into.

Re: How much is 40k a year?
radiology technician, or technologist? I'm not sure if there's even a difference, but when I think technician I think of someone who would actually work on the machine. My mom is a MRI Tech, but that's short for technologist, and she is the person who runs the machine, but doesn't do maintenance or what not to it. Would you be running the machine, or working on it?
