no spark- no start

93 TSI AWD 5 speed

I overheated the car the other day and lost a line to the cooler. I have put it all back together and it won't start. The fuel pump is running constantly and there is no spark. First thing I did was change the CAS, no go, next was the coil pack, no go. It still is running the fuel pump solid with the key in it and no spark.

I am going out to swap the ECU's, but I can't imaginge that it would have gone bad. Any other ideas?

hmm.. did you check all connections on the coil pack, the traingle plug should be pluged in. Also if its the 7 bolt the crank position sensor plug on the back of the block. relays can also go bad. All fuses good?

Could be ecu related, you can check for voltage out to the coils first. If thats the case, (it has voltage to the coil packs) try looking at the parts you used for a swap/other areas.

Ignition transistor? Do you have spark at all? Try a different coil pack. Just because you tried a different one doesn't mean its not bad as well, I have seen a few of them bad in a row before.

Man, you guys would not believe how bad this thing is melted! I would seriously look at the wiring. You might have melted through the insulation and shorted out 2 wires.

Re: no spark- no start

I pulled the whole harness out and pulled back the grommets. There was only damage to the wires at the thermostat housing and at the back of the alternator. I will post pics when I get back to my computer and can upload them.

The real suxs is I don't have any tools here. I have a 200 piece stanley set I borrowed and have had to buy all the rest so no multi meter to test. It wish I did and I might just have to buy another one.

OK.. I plugged in a know to work ecu and the only difference is that the fuel pump shuts off as it is supposed to after a few seconds. I finnaly rigged something together so I could pull a plug. They looked dry, like maybe the injectors are not firing as well. I can feel the fuel going from the line on the return side, so it getting to the injector but not past? I plugged in a different MAS (or MAF, stock, drawing a black) with no diffference as well.

Lets dig boys, I know we can get it. P.S. I am also here by myself so I can't turn it and look at things at the same time, what a pain.

If my engine doesn't get done at the machine shop, I will have time to come help you out a bit.

The CAS didn't get put in 180* out, did it?
