There is a guy that will come and pick up your CRT from you for free. He recycles them somehow. The guys comes once a month to the casino I work at and picks up bad monitors from the slot machines. I will check tonight to see who he is and how you can get a hold of him.
If you do end up throwing it away, take it apart and lightly hit the kneck of the CRT. It will relieve the pressure inside slowly, you will hear a slight hiss. If you do not do this it could explode on someone when being disposed of.
