I don't think there are any attacks on religion itself. There are attacks in people who used religion as a shield to do things that are down right fucked up, and at best illogical and ignorant.

No one said that believing in God, Allah or other higher power(s) is wrong. What most people are saying is that using those higher powers as justification to hate on others is wrong. Religion is a piss poor justification for anything other than treat people with respect.

What if we could use religion to justify anything we wanted? Not just refusing to provide birth control to employees through medical benefits, or serve gay people. What if someone just religion as a justification to beheading Christians. No one's letting ISIS get away with hiding behind religion.

In no way am I trying to say that killing innocent people is on the same level of refusing to serve gay people in your store. But in both cases people are using religion as justification for their actions. One we've labeled as wrong, the others seemed acceptable to an entire state (and about 13 others).
