No play on the input shaft. Output shaft has it's normal in/ out play. I'll take a pic the axle I was mentioning later.
Going to either grab Blake's or Mark's driveshaft and if it still does it then the tranny will come out.

If it is only under load it could be a driveshaft u joint. Swap driveshafts like you plan on doing, if it is still there after I would check the trans shaft bearings. It sounds like a bad intermediate shaft bearing. Pop the end cover of the trans off quick and check for play on the end of the intermediate shaft. You can fully inspect the outer input/intermediate shaft end bearings with trans in car but you have to pull the second section of the trans case after the end cover.
