Re: Carl's 98 auto AWD project Black Magic

The car has been running good for the last month or so. I even drove it to Brainard lastwweekend and it was a smooth trip. Yesterday it desired to remind me that it was a DSM. It took. It into town and on the way back it started to misfire. After looking at it for a few hours I found that it threw a rocker on one of the intake valves. I think the lifter collapsed and allowed the rocker to eject during a pull I made right before the misfiring started. There is a slight scratch on the cam lobe, but no other real damage I am planning on replacing the lifter and and putting the rocker back in, and hoping for the best.

So the car didn't self destruct?

No I'll take the blame on this one, even though I have no idea how the clamp got in there. It just seams like a DSM to be running perfect one minute the drop a cylinder the next. The car ran for over 600 miles with the clamp in the motor So I guess these DSMs are pretty badass.

Indeed. Frankly I think they are some of the best engineered cars from that era when you think of what we are asking out of the original design parameters.
