1g eclipse, slow project.
So I picked up a 90 eclipse gsx awd yesterday.
the guy said it needed new valve guides in the ad because it smoked really bad. anyway the ad wasnt very descriptive at all, it just said the exterior was really clean and the paint was excellent.
anyway i get there and see the following mods it has.
-fmic
-moroso oil pan
-ss brake lines, turbo feed, oil cooler lines.
-drilled rotors all around
-full megan coilover suspension
- full 3" exhuast
-bc 272's
-adjustable cam gears, unknown brand.
-greddy timing belt
-short throw shifer
and from what i can see, thats it.
he said he had the bottom end rebuilt last year, not sure about that..
i drove it for alittle bit and everything seemed okay.
i took the oil cap off, not any blow by coming out. took the dip stick out and no pressure came out. (i did this just to see if
it had blow by since i didnt have a compression tester on me, not sure if thats a legit way to check it, but i read on a different site that that was a easy way to do it) overall it seemed good, besides the smoking..
as far as the smoking, I figured the first thing i would do is check the ic piping to see if theres any oil in them, sure as hell there was. in the intake part, and in the j pipe. so im hoping the turbo seals just went out.
any advice would be greatly appreciated.

haha, non turbo. its a big ricer scene out here. dont get me wrong, there are some really nice fast cars. but ostly its people who just put body kits on there civic and think its fast.
out here, you cant really do any mods to your car. if you dont pass visual inspection, you wont get tags. and passing smog is already a problem
Sorry to come at you like that though.
but there is some ways to get around it :P

Re: 1g eclipse, slow project.
So i did a compression test today.
cold results were # 1-4, 140, 145, 140, 150
Tomorrow i'm going to do a leak down test.
I plan on picking up a complete longblock within the next month and rebuilding it just for fun, and a spare motor.

Re: 1g eclipse, slow project.
I've been doing random little things to the ride.
I fixed the smoking, it was a blown turbo seal. there was a compressor side that came with the car. so i cleaned it up,put it on and its good so far.
I cleaned all the oil out of the ic piping/intercooler.
reloated the maf because it was pinchine a vacuum line were it was.
took off the lower timing belt cover and cleaned in there.
hooked up a oil pressure and boost gauge, re did allot of wiring were the radio goes (it was a complete mess), hooked up a deck
re did allot of vacuum lines.
put three different pcv valves on because they were al shit.
allot of little things that i get anal about.
Things still on the list-
-all new tb components
-new dp
-new o2 wiring
-alternator, possibly saturn
-more vacuum lines
-mbc
-gm maf/maf translator
-lc1 wideband
-datalogger
-some kind of headstuds
-new lifters
-catch can
picking up a longblock to rebuild for 200 bucks.
as of right now, i just want to do a stock rebuild, .20 over.
with all the machine work you could think of. clearences is my main thing.

Nice man, if your getting a lc1wb you have no need for the "new o2 wiring" you have on your list. Its looking good though cant wait to see this thing

did you just put your wideband in the o2 bung? i thought it should be like 17-28" from the o2 housing or something like that.
