Yeah I didn't like my COP when I had it on my car. It looks sexy, but performs poorly. I'm sure the stock ignition setup will fix all your issues.

Mine's been great for the last 2 or so years. I don't understand why it has started giving me problems now.

Re: Project Winter Beater

Having the stock coil pack and good wires on it (Thanks Twack) got it back to driving status but not full on boosting yet. Still fuel cuts after I changed out the sock on the pump with a brand new one in hopes I don't have to change the pump. Also checked the mafs and it seems to be in good working order. I read with those if you tap them with a screw driver at idle they shouldn't change readings at all, but a bad one will. Having the screen off the 3 in. gm maf wouldn't be causing this, right?

It's acting like it's running out of fuel before the injectors though. IDC's shoot way up from 65% way up to 115% on one of my pulls right before fuel cut. That's how my Laser acted before I put the evo9 pump in.

Re: Project Winter Beater

So I've now replaced all 4 injector plugs with newer ones off a 420a and still no difference. What I don't understand is I'm getting 11.7 v on both wires that go to the injectors. Shouldn't I get 12 + on one wire and the other is a ground that the ecu operates?

I'm going to swap my evo 9 pump back in and also re-wire it and see if that helps. I'm seriously out of ideas. I really want to run it this weekend at the autocross.

Re: Project Winter Beater

So after another week of thinking and tinkering on it... I think I've fixed it. It still leans out up top but that's because I have the stock pump in there still. But it pulls like it should for 12 psi. What fixed it was a new fuel filter and putting some injector cleaner in with about 3/8 tank. When I took the filter off straight dirt was coming out. Pretty nasty actually. I should've paid more attention when twack said the tank is pretty dirty...

Before, I'd have to set the translator box to around 480's to even drive the car anywhere. After driving it around with the cleaner in the tank, I started noticing it running smoother. So I messed with the base adjustment knob on the maf-t and it's been running fine set to 560's again. I went on a 20 min cruise last night on some dirt back roads and can say it seems to be back up to where it should be. I could tell the difference through the day. I tried doing some 2nd gear donuts in a parking lot and it just bogged, no power. I tried it later in the day and it was not a problem, just ripped the lot up in 2nd. hahaha

I plan to swap the evo9 pump back in this week and then I should be good to go with a fresh tank of 93 octane.

Re: Project Winter Beater

Thanks to Ryan (MustGoFaster) I'm now rolling on 245 series sticky's:

So if anyone is looking for some really wide wheels on the cheap, go get some 3/s wheels and be prepared to grind.

Re: Project Winter Beater

Finally had my transfer case leak fixed today. Had the local chrysler dealership run my VIN through and turns out my 91 Talon has never had the recall done. So they put an order in for the only t-case seal in MN and it arrived today. An hour later and I had a leak free t-case. Felt so happy. No hassle at all, I was very happy.

Just received my 3 quarts from Jack's transmission dot com also today and have to say, this is the best fluid I have ever used in my transmission. Use to stick with Penzoil Synchromesh and recently had some cheap stuff from work which was the worst ever... Put this fluid in and what a difference it made. Transmission makes way less noise then before, shifts a whole lot smoother. It really is a treat.

The car is just about ready for the cookout. Need to swap the Evo9 pump in and still have to have my wideband o2 bung welded in the exhaust. Still too many things this car could use but I'm really happy with it at the moment.
