Re: Lancer Ralliart First Drive - Edmunds
I'd wait on this one to see if a manual tranny comes out. Didn't Mitsu have problems with the X MR DSG? Shit, has Mitsu ever learned how to make a GOOD tranny?

This tranny is not made by Mitsu. There were a lot of bugs in the programing, but supposedly those has been worked out.

Define good. My Evo transmission is holding up great, and I've put over 30,000 hard driven miles on it in its 68,000 miles of life. Do you think Mitsubishi engineers care what happens when you throw more power than stock at the damned things? No. When you learn how to drive and maintain a vehicle properly then maybe you won't think they suck.

Re: Lancer Ralliart First Drive - Edmunds
I found it interesting the motor is identical to the Evo's, same cams, rods, pistons, everything. Just a smaller turbo, and maybe different tuning in the ECU.

Re: Lancer Ralliart First Drive - Edmunds
Unless there is something we don't know about, it will be easy enough to make Evo power with them. The redline has been dropped 500 rpm I think; I wonder if there is any reason for that other than a small turbo that probably can't flow enough air up there anyway.

Re: Lancer Ralliart First Drive - Edmunds
Same exhaust they said, but I'm guessing everything on the intake side is smaller and more restrictive than the Evo. Does it have a front mount or what?

Re: Lancer Ralliart First Drive - Edmunds
Awesome article!
Cool that the rear seat folds. Wish my evo did that, or at least had a pass-through. Sucky they moved the battery to the front to accomidate for this (or not, I dunno).
Cool that it'll have X cams in it (hopefully), they are as hot or hotter than the IX cams, and they make damn good power.
Sucky no aluminum in the suspension, and that it is not at all compatible with the evo stuff. They had to make it cheaper somehow though!
When open-source tuning is finished for these and people are upgrading their turbos on the X, that will be a nice little logical upgrade as well (a'la STI turbo in a wrx).
I've said it many-a-time, this will likely be Anna's next car. She loves lancers!

Re: Lancer Ralliart First Drive - Edmunds
MattD, ya, its like a mini FMIC, like you see on those turbo'd IS300's (read: so small its lame!). Aftermarket FMIC's are looking *really* nice though, and not too spendy for a big fat core. I'm sure one for an X would fit, or be damn close to fitting.
Sleepy, you know the guys running 9's w/ 700-1000whp are running the stock tranny, right (like literally, untouched stock trannies, some of them!)? This SST unit is made by getrag, so we'll see. Speculation is all over the board at this point.

I like the taillights on it, better than the X lights... would love to see a X with them instead of the all red ones!

Good: BMW, Porsche/Audi/VW
Wow, way to sound like an ass if that was directed to me specifically. I more than maintain my vehicles, and I have no issues using a clutch pedal and moving a shift lever. I even granny shift my Shep stage 3 because I'm a pussy, and I even use wonderful fluids in my drivetrain parts which are regularly checked and/or replaced.

Re: Lancer Ralliart First Drive - Edmunds
The DSG sounds to me as like it'd become a yawn box, making girlfriends, women, and Nancys think "they know how to drive" Psssh I don't want no solenoid/computer/gizmo shifting for me, that's why God made arms: To shift manual transmissions.

You need to get out and drive more cars if those are the best manual transmissions you have ever driven! Go drove a NSX, S2000, and/or a '06+ SI and nothing else will compare. I'd take my Evo tranny over the majority of German car transmissions.

So you've driven a manual BMW, Porsche, Audi and VW then, correct? I have not. It's time for you to stop making your posts sound as if you know more than you actually know.
