Re: Soldiers on a One way Mission to Mars

So, of course, I had a dream about this last night.

I was stuck on Mars in like this weird space station (but on mars, ya know), it was tall and tringular shaped, 3 levels. Top level ceiling and floor were glass, to let light down to the bottom levels. Second level was a loft for sleeping, and base level was basically a kitchen/lab thing.

I was with a few people, and our ship had landed a ways away from this place, but we had somehow made it to it. We were stuck there, and unsure about how to get back to earth.

Obviously I had no idea if we were there on a mission or something, so I spent my time wandering around the place (it was quite big) trying to figure out how we were going to survive, how we'd get fresh oxygen, how long of a power source we had, and how we were going to live in the cold/heat. I ended up lighting a gas stove (like a cooktop, like you'd find in a kitchen) for heat, but then realized it was burning our oxygen, and that's when I woke up in a panic. I realized that we must be able to get more stuff off of our ship, since we had gotten into this place somehow in the first place. This gave me a little comfort, for being stuck on a far away planet with little chance of ever leaving.

Mostly I was wondering how it'd feel to suffocate from running out of oxygen.

Good times!

Plants and trees are a great way to create oxygen. They feed on the Carbon Dioxide that we exhale and create oxygen that we inhale.

Your dream reminded me of that cheesy 80's sci-fi flick: Creature. i ran across it on Netflix Online a few weeks back. haha.

If they sent teams of soldiers to Mars with a plan to set up for colonizing (or a remote base/lab situation) and did it by volunteer I think that would be cool. That has happened many times in history without much hope of return.

The concept of using our mighty military resources for more than conflict and defense excites me. Especially coupled with cooperation from more countries. If our military expansion comes with greater non conflict gains, than our current path might not sting as much in terms of growth and costs.
