Also what if he took one of those shells that was going to the junk yard? It would be like saving the life of a DSM.

I was just going to say that it would be easier (and cost effective) to swap a V8 into a RX-7 plus I think it would work better in the long run. Swapping it into a DSM could be done and would be different but it would be way too much work and for what?

The dollar value would be the same. 4g63 are known for their free horsepower tricks. Unlike RX-7 engines which are expensive and blow up easy... not very forgiving. 4g63 very forgiving

Switching to a RWD from AWD would be a downgrade unless you wanted to set it up for DRIFT YO!!!!

To much modification and not much reward in the end....
I own a S-10 with a V8 swap and a DSM. I like them for different reason. I don't see the both coming together. I think it would ruin the DSM

A properly set up RWD car will cut just as good of 60 ft.'s as an AWD setup, if not better.

Why is there so much argument about this? If you think it's cool, no one fucking cares. If you think it's gay, again, no one fucking cares. No one will ever be right or wrong when it comes to what they want to do when modding their car because everyone has different tastes.

I, personally, appreciate the fab work that goes into swaps like that and enjoy a torquey v8 in a light car.

As far as the argument about "if you want an ls1, buy a fucking camaro" goes... an ls-x camaro or firebird will set you back anywhere from 8k up. NOW, pick up an AWD dsm shell (less than 1k), grab an ls1 and trans setup for somewhere around 2k, plus another grand or 2 for everything else you'll need to get it in the chassis and make it run, and you're still only at like 5 or 6k. Granted the numbers are all off the top of my head and I havn't exactly researched prices on stuff like this for awhile, but a project like that would still end up being less than just picking up a sweet boat of a camaro, and it'd be faster too

And this goes back to the AWD vs RWD which I won't get into

If you want different don't swap a chevy, ford V8. That isn't different... It has been done way too much....

I think there are better swap engines for DSMs that haven't been discovered yet.

First look at how the engine sits. You would have to fab something up so that the engine would sit 90 degrees from where it usually sits. How about finding something that will sit in the same position? I don't think if you turned a V8 it would fit. So chop 2 cylinders off and look at V6s

What would work for a V6 maybe. Has anyone tried stuffing a Mitsubishi GT3000 engine into this thing? There is a lot more room in a 1G then a 2G so maybe it would work...

There is also the V6 that they use in the buick/pontiac that has a supercharged engine.

Swaping something from a VW?

I think Toyota has a nice V6 from a Lexus that is 3.0L (1mz-fe I think) that can be supercharged. It has been swapped into a MR2 so it has to be compact enough This would be my choice if I had to swap I love the sound of a nice tuned V6 almost over a V8

And if you don't like the V8 or V6 or 4g63 what other I4 would you have under the hood? I can't think of any. I love that 4g63...

I am not arguing that swapping is a bad idea, just think of other possiblilities.

Not to steal away this thread but I like the Idea of swapping the 4g63 into other cars myself

Myself I am looking at this more

http://www.amazon.com/Build-Cheap-Sp.../dp/0760322872

Then making it 4g64 powered because you can mate a RWD trans to the engine, bolt on a head from a 4g63 with turbo...blah blah blah .... and you would have one fast homebuilt car!

Also that RX-7 powered 4g63 was cool to look at.

I think a challenge would be a lot of fun, and those other swaps you listed just suck. I'd want something thats actually performance orientated... not some shitty commuter car engine that has absolutely no aftermarket support.
