Turn off the trend micro virus stuff in the BIOS if it is that type of scanner, those suck and generally a PITA. Then get ad-aware and a couple other programs I can't think of at the moment and they will get rid of most if not all the data-mining/spyware crap. You might still want to format and install a real OS (Unix/Linux) if you get a quick burst of intelligence :P

As posted HERE...
If you want to get rid of spyware/adware, download AdAware and SpyBot Search & Destroy. Run them one after the other and you will find and get rid of any sort of spyware and crap that gets installed on your machine from malicious websites.

But if you do have a virus, correct me if I'm wrong computer people, you will need to re-boot your computer (start from scratch reboot). Back up things you need that are virus free, etc.
That's what I had to do in August when I had a virus on mine. Now it's perfect.
I use the Google Toolbar to block pop-ups, and then I downloaded Adware (the one Matt linked). I guess I will need to download the other one as well to get the spyware off my computer. I thought Adware did that, but maybe it justs "locks it away" somewhere.....
I'm no computer expert.....

Through my own experiences I've found that AdAware and Spybot S&D don't clear everything alone... Run one, then the other, and more often than not the latter will still find something.
Getting a virus does not mean you have to completely reinstall your operating system. The only time you would have to do that is if it's malicious and destroys system data, otherwise any good antivirus software will be able to find and clean your computer of any known virus.

FYI, adaware and google tool bar are in itself spyware and they can :bj:
Now, spybot search and destroy does not have any spyware.... and that is the only one i'd recomend anyone to use.
The google tool bar uses your machine for background processing as well..

Blake if you serious about installing Unix or linux, I have a few dozen differnt distros on CD. I will be at shooters tonight. I can talk to you about it then and if you decide you want to go with one, you can borrow the CD's. Sorry I can't help you with Winblows, IMO, that is just a self inflicted virus anyway.
