Battery Relocation Grounds?

So I relocated the battery to the back of the car for a while. I have been having minor electrical problems (don't know if this is causing the problems or not) However I would like to eliminate many of the possiblilities as I can.

I was starting the car one day and my dad was looking at the engine and noticed that when I started the car, I was getting sparks around the engine. I had him start the car and noticed that they are all around the grounding straps or near grounding points. I am thinking that I need a better grounding system then what I have. How should I attempt to correct this? Should I run a negative cable (like the positive cable) to the front of the car or should I try to improve the grounding connections from the negative cable?
Any other tricks?
Would this solve my problems?
Did I do much or any damage to the car?

Another symptom that is happening is that when I attempt to start the car, the car is making ticking sounds by (or is) the starter. I had this problem before but it went away for sometime. Now it has come back and I am unable to start the car. Everything else has power...

As a future mod I am going to put in a volt guage as this car did not come equip with one
