CrankWalk

I was just reading a round and found the what so called "CrankWalk" that is so common with the 2G motors 7 bolt engines.
and I was wondering if some one would explain this a little better to me.
and also how should I know or can tell that this problem exist on my 95 TSi awd, and what ways to fix it?
